    INR/Bleeding question

I called into the Ask-A-Nurse to discuss and find out if I needed to get checked out this weekend, and she explained that the bugs were most likely black flies. Apparently with our wet weather this year, we are having hatches of these all over, and it is not uncommon to have swelling and...

    INR/Bleeding question

Hey everyone, I'm back with another question to pick your brains. I am fairly new to the INR/warfarin medication thing, as you know. I went in to the INR clinic yesterday, and they came up with a 2.2 for an INR, and since my target is 2.5-3.5, they bumped my dose slightly up from what it was...

    New diagnosis

Jeri, Glad to hear you are getting into cardiac rehab. I am nearing the end of mine, and I love it. As far as the diagnosis, I haven't heard of that one. Ask lots of questions of your cardio!

    6 week post-op update

Sounds good, Amy. Keep up the progress. I know what you mean about it seeming surreal; once in a while I see my scar in the mirror and still think, "Holy crap, I had open heart surgery!"

    just had my MRI scan

Yes, that was my experience. I don't know if this is common, but mine was stable for 10 years after expanding the first time. I was very happy for that ten years, as we had just had our first child at the time that the first dilation occurred.

    Heart Rate Restricted?

I have noticed that it limits the upper bpm, but not my ability to push my exercising. I don't push the exercising as much as some on the board, however, so it may be just that I am within my limits and don't notice the ceiling that metoprolol would have put on me otherwise.

    Tingly ouchy scar

Hi Alison! I am 12 weeks post-op today, and have had the same thing that you mention. I have had sharp twinges near the top of the scar, although they don't last long and they come in batches, it seems. I haven't worried too much about them as they go away and I don't feel them for a few days...

First post... OHS Scheduled for May 27th!

T, thanks for the update. Sounds like things are going to the plan, and I hope they continue to do so!

    Unusually high HR ?

It was explained to me that the beta blockers block sites that adrenaline would attach to on the heart, thus stopping the adrenaline (secreted by the adrenal gland in order to get more blood pumping to the kidneys) from turning up the heart rate. Someone can jump in if they know this to be...

I have nothing intelligent or googled to add, but I certainly hope that it is nothing major.

How do we know if we have done too much?

Wanda, I haven't found any amount of exertion yet that resulted in going too far, nor have I seen this at cardiac rehab. This is not to say that this can't happen, but I don't personally know of what it might be. Regarding the BB question, in my case I definitely have an upper limit on my...

    Trouble sleeping because of worry

I have tried quite a few times to sleep without an aid of some sort (Ambien or Benadryl) with no luck since my surgery. Every weekend I attempt it, and about midnight or 1 AM I end up taking something to turn off my brain. During the week I take an Ambien to fall asleep pre-emptively, as I am...

Pre-Medication for Visits to Dentist ?

My surgeon, PCP, and Dentist all go with premedication. My surgeon says that while it may be overkill, why not?
