Valve Decision - Mechanical or Tissue

I will bring a bottle of chardonnay...wait a minute....according to todays news, if we have more than one SMALL glass of wine a day, we won't even need to be worried if Nathan's valve will make for 20 years  My Mom can't figure how she is still around after all her martnini's and...

    Coumadin clinic

They Mayo tells Nathan to always go by his INRatio vs the clinic ProTime, and even the nurses at the clinic go by Nathan's. He does bring his machine in and will check it with them from time to time, and they are usually at least .5 higher. The blood draws were always closer to his INRatio.

Site Newbie Bicuspid AV repaired, low EF now

My husband had his BAV replaced in 9/2005. He was 35 at the time, had cardiomegaly (very enlarged heart) severe AV regurg and was post endocarditis. At the time of surgery EF was around 54. At 12/2005 his EF had dropped to 35%. He was not told he was in CHF, but they had hoped for better...

    Aortic patch!

Welcome home Seth! Nathan didn't need a patch, but Nathan got a 29mm Cabomedics aortic valve....hmmmmm.... ? Seriously, I believe Nathan's valve size was in relation to his very large heart/aorta, etc...NOT a good thing...but all better now :) I wouldn't worry about the patch Seth. Nice...

Hi Joel and welcome :) My husband had his AVR @ 34 years old in Sept 2005. His first choice was also the On-X, but his surgeon wasn't using them yet. You are getting a great valve :) I am a nurse and I was lucky enough to be able to take 3 weeks off of work when my husband had his...

    A Lipitor/Warfarin Connection ?

My husband has no experience with Lipitor while on Coumadin. He did start Zetia (which acts more with the GI tract than with the liver) while on Coumadin with absolutely no change in his INR. His Zetia was discontinued 18months later, with a permanent drop in his INR 3 weeks later. He had to...

    InRatio vs. Coagucheck's new machine

:) INRatio :) INRatio Another Vote INRatio... We asked about INR machine comparisons at the Mayo in 8/2007. We were told that the new CoaguChek XS was the top of the line on the market and that is what they recommend. My husband has been using the INRatio for exactly two years and gets...

    beer

Like the others mentioned, I think it is more of a daily issue Rachel. My Dad died of an upper GI bleed. He was an alcoholic and drank straight vodka. No amount of alcohol is good on any stomach lining, and if you have known GI issues, go easy. Go with what Bina said.....have some cheese...

    Hey Nurses

:D Nursing is a fabulous career with endless opportunities! I started in a nursing home for a few years (while we had our kids) in 1991. I wasn't a big fan of shift work, but it did work out well for us at the time. I loved hearing the stories the elderly had to tell our city in the early...

    New savings on warfarin!

Good News! We have had an awful time with Innoviant mail order pharmacy. They took it upon themselves to discontinue Nathan's 5.0 mg of Warfarin when I requested and sent an RX for 2.5mg tabs, in addition to the 5.0 mg. I look foward to going back to a local pharmacy. Sounds like it will be...
