27 year old british Pro wrestler, starting to log my road to recovery

Hi Brit, I dropped about ten pounds after my surgery and I got back in the gym at about 5 weeks. I was 55 at the time of the surgery. 203 lbs and about 13% body fat. The lack of appetite goes along with the lack of activity. I would bet that comes back in a hurry. At first I focused on...

Fourteen stitches and didn't "bleed out"

OK, so it's time for a refresher. When you use a knife always push the blade away from you. When using a wrench or ratchet to loosen a very tight bolt or nut always pull the handle. Never push because when the bolt breaks loose you will smack your knuckles into some sharp piece of metal...

INR testing with different medical insurance.

That's probably what I'll do. I do think I would be a little more comfortable buying directly from the manufacturer. But I haven't compared the cost.

    INRatio strips from different lots

Other than cost, why not just order the strips from Alere?

INR testing with different medical insurance.

So here is what I love about Kaiser. I didn't pay a thing. But my current employer does have a good plan with them. I sent an email to my guy at the coumadin clinic. He said they do home testing but it takes a while to get on the program and that I needed to have my regular doc put in the...

Getting a good blood drop for those that self test

I think this is key also. Last time I tested I noticed that after I applied my drop I lowered my hand to my lap and got a big drop like I wanted in the first place.

Getting a good blood drop for those that self test

Thanks for the tip Vadim. I do have a problem getting a good drop of blood. It's kind of ironic that the one time we actually want to bleed we don't. Gary

INR testing with different medical insurance.

I have been insured with Kaiser Permanente since my AVR surgery. I love the way they handle INR testing. I stop in the lab at the clinic in the morning. Later that afternoon I can see my results on line. Then I get an email from my guy at the coumadin clinic telling me what to do. I have...

    Lipitor and Cuomadin

Well I've been complaining to my doc because the leg pain persisted. He sent me in for blood work to check for muscle damage. My CREATINE KINASE was at 1067 U/L. Should be less than 200U/L according to the test results sheet. I guess there's not much to do but wait for it to come down.

    Lipitor and Cuomadin

So this is day 5 off of Lipitor. I still have the cramping but not as bad so hopefully they will subside in a few more days. The fatigue is gone and my workout this morning was much better. My coumadin doc still swears that Lipitor has no effect on INR. My gut feeling is that everybody reacts...

    Lipitor and Cuomadin

Hi All, AVR about a year and a half ago. Mechanical valve and taking coumadin. Did really well for over a year. Work out every day and enjoy life. Don't worry much about what I eat or drink and always tested in range (2.0-3.0). A few months back my doc decides I should take lipitor because even...

    Bloodshot Eyes

I've had this twice. It just sort of appears. Can't figure out what triggers it.

Someone pour me a tall one?

I take warfarin and I usually have a couple of stiff ones every night. No problems.

    My 1 year anniversary.

Congratulations Ovie. My one year is just nine days away. It's been a very different year. Gives a whole new meaning to the term "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger". Already looking forward to to hearing about 2 year aniversaries. Gary

Low INR after surgery :( Anti-coagulation experts come on in.

A lot could be due to you just settling into your normal activity level and your normal diet. It's about consistency. Try not to make radical changes in your diet. All of those foods that they tell you are bad are actually OK as long as you are consistent about you diet. Also your activity level...

'Old Cars, Strong Hearts' & other thoughts....

I can't check your link because I don't do facebook. But I had a 77 Monte Carlo. Gold with a tan landau top. I had those rubber insert turbine wheels that used to always throw hub cabs. Enough room under the hood for 2 small blocks.

    Persistent symptoms

With the buy in from your cardiologist. You might try backing off the metoprolol a little bit and trying to up the exercise a little bit. If that works a little then keep adjusting in small increments and watching your heart rate. Gary
