    Reunion Agenda

Hey Bob, I'll try to hang onto some Cugans. I actually smuggled some of them OUT of the US into Brazil this week. I'm in Rio. Tough duty, not. Hey Gina, how's your stash?? Nashville or bust.

Making the choice: RP, homograft, mechanical, tissue

Ticktock, refreshing comments. Some non Coumadin folks and respective doctors ariund here have all us Coumadin users dead or dying already. Hey M7, I've been in Rio since Friday and am sorryy to say I have abused the 2 drink rule (and am still living to tell about it). K is here too. Life is...

    Cardiac Rehab Phase II???

I got zero rehab. The cut me then cut me loose. I didn't even get one of those fancy stress tests. I rehabed in my woodworking shop during my time off.

    The Undiscovered Country

Boomer, question. You are not the first I have read that tried to get a Ross but due to complications had a mechanical valve implanted. Was the mechanical decided ahead of time as a backup plan? Did you have a choice of valves? Best of luck on a speedy recovery.

    Reunion Agenda

Billy I am 51 too, just like Rob. Also didn't put a birthday just like Rob, and have a SJ mechanical and graft, just like Rob and can't bench press mega weight anymore on Dr's orders, just like Rob. Our tickers look like this.

    Post AVR Pain

I agree with Bill. You are so glad to be home and out of the hospital, everything else is small in comparison. Also every day you feel a bit better. Drugs help.

    Reunion Agenda

In SAT I remember the most important topic was when and where to eat and when we finished, we started planning when and where to eat again. Also high on the topic list was discussing ways to fudge on our self-imposed two drink limit. Now those are important topics.

    Scar Tissue

Steve, that was the main reason my Cardiologist was against me getting a tissue valve. The main drawback was the additional surgery and the scar tissue and possible surgical complications as opposed to the Coumadin issue for mechanicals. He said some people scar more than others which can...

Has anyone had side effects from the Heart/Lung machine?

Marty, I'm just fine now. It was the temporary memory loss that effected me. I believe the worst part lasted only several months.

Has anyone had side effects from the Heart/Lung machine?

Marty, I have my Operative Report. I was on the machine 148 minutes, about 2 1/2 hours and had a clamp time of 94 minutes. As I had both the graft and the valve, I had the machine hooked up to my groin. Don't know if that makes any difference. When I woke up in the ICU unit, the first thing...

Has anyone had side effects from the Heart/Lung machine?

Ben, I completely disagree with your analysis of my, and others, problem of memory loss. Many experience significient short term memory loss from the machines of which many seem to recover over time. I do not see what the big issue is here unless we are trying to convince people fixing to...

Making the choice: RP, homograft, mechanical, tissue

I really doubt the mortality rate as stated in your post unless it includes ALL people on coumadin which is a much different control group than valve people. There are people with many different and really serious forms of complications which involve coagulation and many already have one foot...

    Broken Chest Wire

I travel all over the world and have never set it off. I have an x-ray of my chest at home and I believe I have counted sixteen loops. Ben, they must have used 14 gauge chicken wire on you.

Making the choice: RP, homograft, mechanical, tissue

I agree with Gerry. I too have tons of data and found the standard SJ Mechanical free of defects except those attributed to damage while being implanted which is why people here also stress the need for an experienced cutter. Mechanical valve people really do not have the worry about the thing...

    Medical ID for coumadin users

I ordered a very nice gold bracelet in March from MEDICAL-ID.COM and it has been on back order every since. I sent about 20 emails and eventually a certified letter requesting a refund. They called last week and informed me a "check is in the mail." They actually whinned to me about being...

    New advancements

Hey Gina, I am the first patient in my Dr.'s office to home test so he and I are sorting it out as we go along. He has no problem with the concept provided he is convinced the person is responsible. As I tend to debate everything with him, he is keenly aware of my attention to the details of...
