    Tenderlett Activation

Actually Kay and I are taking a much needed vacation in October. She has gone with me to Rio and London so far this year so we have done a fair bit of traveling. She may be going back to Rio with me in Nov. It is true, I am not a Vegas fan. You guys have a good time and try to keep Gleason's...

    Switching from coumadin to warfarin

One main problem with Warfarin is that, as a generic, there are various manufacturers of same. I believe the inconsistancy in doseages among these manufacturers varies. If you are on Warfarin and can keep the same supplier, the odds of your INR remaining stable are greater. Unfortunately...

Anyone ever regret the type of valve they chose?

Seems to me if doctors got kickbacks on valves, they would put in tissue valves because they need to be replaced far more often. My doc left it up to me and told me I didn't have to decide until the day of the surgery.

    home again home again

Hey Tick - You are probably in the lead as the member with the most artificial parts. With you being so small, where to they find room inside to put all that stuff? Dick

When serious training and valve disease collide

Vince, Short and sweet I had a bicuspid and now I have a SJ mechanical and aortic graft installed May 2000. My only major restriction is that I have to lay off the heavy weights. There are many people on this board with post surgery problems. I really do not have any. I just finished...

    How long on Pump Poll

Alpage, if you were on the clamp for 81 minutres, you were on the pump longer than that. Clamp time is when they clamp off your heart and work on it. You may be up there with the leaders.

Has anyone lost weight post surgery?

No, I didn't need to lose it. I got pretty damn skinny. I am 6'1 194 lbs and I dropped 18 lbs off that. I am back to where I want to be.

    Post surgery physical restrictions

I do not recall my doc giving me any weight restrictions. Robthatsme and I had the same surgery and the same valve/graft installed and since we are both weight lifters, I adopted his 75 lb. restriction which I tend to abuse at will.

Has anyone lost weight post surgery?

My doc told me that after surgery I was burning about 5000 calories a day just healing and because I was not eating that much or doing anything, I lost about 18 lbs. After about 4 months or so I gained it all back. My valve/graft surgery was two yars ago May 25th and I am the exact same weight...

    How long on Pump Poll

Ross, ask your cutter's office for a copy of your Operative Report. It gives all kinds of details. Some balk but stay after them until you get it.

    How long on Pump Poll

Pump time 148 minutes clamp time 94 minutes When they do an aortic valve plus an aortic graph and the heart-lung machine is hooked up to your femoral artery in your groin area rather than the chest. Leg hurt like a SOB afterwards, right Bob and Rob?

    INR Chart

Marty, Gina, I emailed it to both of you. It is in Excel. It is a fax form I use to report my INR's and dosages to my Cardiologist. As you can see by the chart, I have been using this form for about a year. Works for us. Dick

    Coagucheck vs Protime?

They are both good machines. I have used both and they basically perform the same task. The Protime is probably easier to get here in the states.

    Coagucheck vs Protime?

Marty, "S" models only have one set of liquid controls. I understand the other model has two. From what I understand from the office nurse, these are not required with the electronic controls. She said she also tests the machine by poking herself. Since she is not medicated, she should be a...

    Coagucheck vs Protime?

Marty, my cardio has an "S" and I was in last week and asked the nurse if anybody ever pegged out at 8, the max range of an "s" and she said all the time - three times that week. She said when they peg out at 8 then they do the blood draw to see how much more than 8. Some were in the 10 and...

    Coagucheck vs Protime?

Lorraine, check out this site. I believe Lisa is correct. You now can get one in the states, just not the "S" model. Lisa and I use the same cardio group and they use a Coaguchek. http://www.coaguchek.com/
