Recovery with young kids at home

You're welcome, jlgreiner3 . My mechanical valve was a CardiaMed - http://www.cardiamed.com/surgeons/surgeons.html - I found walking daily helped (and is almost a requirement to help aid in recovery). I started off with 3X5 minute walks each day for the first week, then 3X10 for the second etc...

Recovery with young kids at home

Good Morning - I had a mechanical aortic valve installed April 12 this year and then went home to a 1 yr old and 4 year old after 4 days in hospital. The oldest understood that 'daddy was sore' and he was great. Really gentle around me, and didn't try to 'jump' on me or anything. The youngest...

How long did you need help?

After surgery I was off work for 6 weeks. After being discharged I started my 'rehab' - 3 X 5 minute walks a day plus some basic exercises to do 3 times a day also. The walks increased in duration by 5-10 minutes each week. After 2 weeks I would walk my son to daycare which is 5 minutes down the...

    Mech Valve Coping Survey

Hello. 1. Scale of 0 to 10, with Zero being pin-drop silence, and Ten being someone talking to you in a "normal" human voice (which I assume is louder than the valve), what number would you assign to your valve clicking? - Probably around a 3. I hardly even notice it anymore, but it's there. I...

    warfarin dose issues

Sure, I absolutely agree and understand that it will likely happen. I was more interested to note that dosing the same amount daily brought my INR down despite the same weekly amount as high/low days.

    warfarin dose issues

FWIW - Before I started taking 'control' of my own INR (with pillicle's advice), I was on 6MG Sat/Sun/Mon then 5mg the remaining days of the week (this was a total of 38mg a week/avg. of 5.42 each day) with my INR tested on Friday evening. My INR each week for three weeks was 2.8/2.9/2.8. A...

    Irregular heart beat

Hello. I'm just passed 4 months post opp and I'm experiencing a very similar thing. I'm also only 31 years old so not an 'old guy' either. My cardiologist seems to think that they are ectopic beats and benign, but has me getting a holter monitor next week for 24hrs to see whats up. FWIW - pre...

    Diarrhoea :-)

Haha. What meds are you on? Other than Warfarin I was also on sotolol, magnesium, paracetamol and 2 types of pain meds plus a laxative. The laxative was used as the meds i were on usually cause constipation. I'm assuming you're not on a laxative too? Other meds could cause it I guess.

    Aortic regurgitation and sex life

As above, I had severe regurgitation and maintaining erections wasn't one of the issues I had. That's not to say it isn't a possible side effect, of course, but as dornole suggested, perhaps he should speak to a doctor regarding this issuie.

    Post Surgery Appointments

Thank you all for your input. I appreciate it! I'll have a chat to my Dr. when I'm next in, in a couple of weeks and see what he thinks just to be safe but I'm sure I'm ok. It seems most have had similar experiences as me too.

    Nightmares after surgery

I'm 3 months post opp and am currently on Warfarin & Sotalol. Have been on Metoprolol in the past too. I was fortunate enough not to suffer bad dreams like others have. PTSD perhaps?

    Post Surgery Appointments

Good Morning All (Or good afternoon, good evening or goodnight, depending on your location). I'm interested, how many follow up appointments did you have, and what, if any, concerns were mentioned? I'm almost 4 months post op, and other than my surgeon check up at 5 weeks and Cardio at 6...

    Noisy valve

Hello.3 Months post opp - Some days it 'seems' louder than others, but now it's just a part of me. If I'm having a sleepless night then yeah, it can become bothersome. That said, at times I have an irregular beat, so it the 'irregularity' of the clicking that is off-putting, not the clicking...

This stable INR business is really p...ing me off

Very good points and I agree 100%! It worries me a bit that my INR was below 2 for at least 1 week, but also luck in a way, as just before I dropped down they were talking about doing monthly testing. Imagine that! Going to monthly testing then my INR goes super low... Anyway, and as a novice...

This stable INR business is really p...ing me off

Good luck! I'm just past 3 months post opp so hit me up if you have any questions, help or just want someone to chat too. I log in several times each day! It's so reasuring that most people seem to have been in a similar boat to me. I think most of my frustration came from the drs/nurses at the...

This stable INR business is really p...ing me off

Wow! 25 years. Thats terrific! Yeah i read online to avoid the CoaguChek S as it had been recalled a few years ago or something like that. Yeah we have Ebay. I'll check it out but I may opt for a new one, only cause i would presume it would last longer. I guess it depends if i can not only...

This stable INR business is really p...ing me off

Ah, ok. that would make perfect sense too. I feel a lot more relaxed now than what I did at the Dr's yesterday evening. Phew!

This stable INR business is really p...ing me off

Ah ok, that's another thing I hadn't considered either! My activity levels have increased since most/all restrictions have been lifted. I'm back playing golf, playing more with my kids, doing more 'chores' that require lifting 'heavier' items. Yeah, Pellicle has been a great source of...
