Mechanical Valve or Tissue Valve ?

You have some really solid advice here, but at the end of the day it is your call. My 2 cents: * Managing warfarin/INR really is pretty straightforward and not nearly as bad as what medical professionals make it out to be. However as mentioned above, if you don't think you can or are capable of...

    Cure For Atrial Fibrillation

I had that same procedure too, and 9 months later, so far so good. Time will tell however.

Mechanical Valve or Tissue Valve ?

You're telling me! It's terrible. On ADSL I was 5mb, so it's a slight improvement.

Mechanical Valve or Tissue Valve ?

I understand why this would be appealing, Shah. Unfortunately nothing is guaranteed. My internet provider says I can get download speeds of up to 50mbs... i get 11. How soon are they looking to opperate?

Mechanical Valve or Tissue Valve ?

Hi Shah, I'm 31 and I had my valve replaced in April 2016, so I faced a similar decision less than a year ago. At the end of the day, you have to do what you feel is best for you and you have to be comfortable with it. If you want a tissue valve go for it, but consider; Warfarin management is...

    After mechanical heart valve surgery

Other than warfarin I'm on Sotalol, 80mg twice daily. That said, I was also on Sotalol pre-operation to help with my A-fib. Cardiologist aims to ease me off this over the coming year or so.

Yes, I am the new guy

Welcome Dylan!! No repair for me, just a brand new mechanical valve. I actually don't think I've spoken to anyone here who had just a repair - could be wrong however.

    Chest pain

Yeah, I understand that. It can get really frustrating, especially when you'll have a day when you feel '100% better' then a day later your in pain again. It's a slow process but you will feel better before you know it.

    Chest pain

Hello, you'll probably get a number of different responses however I guess it depends on what you define as 'pain'. I had pain/general discomfort up until around 6-8 weeks ago now the only 'pain' I feel is if I irritate a sternal wire (I have one at the top that really bugs me if I bump it too...

Australian Members -Trusted places to buy a Coaguchek Unit

Hello all - I'm finally getting around to buying my own unit, and as the title suggests, I'm wanting to know if anyone can recommend a place to buy it from? Many Australian online stores seem to offer the unit with strips etc. however as I have no experience with these places, I'm unsure if the...

    Endocarditis

Hi QuincyRunner, thank you for your input. I had actually read somewhere something similar to what you've said above (especially the last part about "no blood inside of these valves they lack the infection fighting abilities of the native valves") however, I actually couldn't remember/find where...

    Endocarditis

Pellicle, thank you very much for your detailed response. It makes perfect sense. I've been flossing daily, brushing twice and using mouthwash but am seeing a dentist soon for a check up.

    Endocarditis

Ive tried to do some research online, but I haven't found the answer so maybe some here can explain something to me. Both my surgeon and cardiologist stressed the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene to help prevent infection that could lead to endocarditis. They explained the risks...

    nosebleeds, anyone?

Yeah, I'm with Scott on this one. I simply plug it and go about my business. Usually stops in a few minutes.

    nosebleeds, anyone?

Since Starting on Warfarin around 6 months ago I've had a few nosebleeds however these have occurred when I've had a cold and seem to have been triggered by sniffing, sneezing, blowing my nose etc. Annoying but mine haven't lasted any longer than a couple of minutes.

What were the signs that lead you to OHS?

Around August 2015 I had an episode of heart palpitations that lasted around 7 hours starting around 3am. In hindsight I shouldve done something then, but at the time I had a sick 3 year old sleeping in bed with me. A 4 month old that wouldn't sleep that i had got up to around a dozen times...
