nosebleeds, anyone?

I'm very new to taking warfarin. Haven't had a nosebleed in many years. Now two of them in the last few days. Set off by sneezing the first time, coughing the second. Does this happen to anyone else?

Yep, nosebleeds used to be a real nuisance.........especially in the fall and winter when the air became cold and dry. Several years ago a friend mentioned a "sinus wash" to me and now I selldom get nosebleeds and they are minor when they occur. I actually use it year "round as it keeps my sinus clear. I get mine at Rite Aid and they are blend of sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride powder that I mix with water.

Since Starting on Warfarin around 6 months ago I've had a few nosebleeds however these have occurred when I've had a cold and seem to have been triggered by sniffing, sneezing, blowing my nose etc. Annoying but mine haven't lasted any longer than a couple of minutes.

Mainly I wake up with dry blood in my nose. I have only had a couple really bad ones, but can usually get them stop fairly quickly. I roll tissue up and stick up the nostril and leave it there as long as I can without looking too funny.

Yeah, I'm with Scott on this one. I simply plug it and go about my business. Usually stops in a few minutes.

I've been on warfarin for 7 years but just started getting bad nose bleeds a year ago. They would wake me up during the night and take at least half an hour to stop. I went to see a ear nose specialist and he cauterised the problem area and I've been fine ever since. Would recommend this if you keep having problems...

I've been using warfarin for 25 years and don't recall nosebleeds. If you've got a meter, it probably wouldn't hurt to check your INR to confirm that it's in range when these (at least one or two) nosebleeds occur.

The sinus rinse mentioned by Dick is probably the one from NeilMed. It's available at RiteAid. If you belong to Costco, they've got the best deal for these - two (or three?) bottles, 250 packets of the sodium chloride/sodium bicarbonate power that is used to mix the rinse solution, and a can of spray to moisten your sinuses. If you don't belong to Costco, I found that the packets are less expensive at Target than they are at Rite Aid.

I've stopped using the sinus rinse - not because it didn't help, but because I'm basically a bit lazy about self-care, and it's a bit weird putting the bottle in a nostril and squeezing the bottle so that the solution comes out the OTHER nostril.

I may wind up going back to it when I think that I REALLY need it.

I wish you a quick resolution to your nose bleed situation.
