    Health Insurance Cover 2nd Opinions?

Almost all plans cover a 2nd opinion. Many will require it for certain procedures and tests. Call Customer Service. And.....GET THE PERSON'S NAME AND DATE OF CALL! Insurance carriers record their calls. If there's ever a problem, refer back to the information so they can listen to the call. If...

How Long Does it Take for the Sternum to Heal

I had my surgery on 2/9/12 and it couldn't have gone better. My partner (an RN) took 7 weeks of Family leave to care for me. Looking back, it was overkill. I only needed help for the first 2 weeks after. Most of the issue was getting out of the recliner. I haven't noticed any pain in 3 months. I...

    Rehab - Do or Not?

Hey Knight - I tried to send you a private message but it wouldn't go through. (TOTALLY off topic for a moment) Elgin, eh? Born and bred here.

    Rehab - Do or Not?

I was on the 2nd machine tonight and the nurse looked at my heart rate and said 'This really isn't much effort for you, is it?' So........FINALLY!!!! They put me at a little faster clip on the next machine and my heart rate actually broke 100. And...I saw someone that hasn't been there during my...

    Rehab - Do or Not?

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to give it a few more sessions before I call my doctor. Quite honestly, I'm walking faster on my own than on the treadmill. When I pumped up the speed to get it at a comfortable speed, I got some 'tude' from the nurse. Hopefully I can get a little more...

    Rehab - Do or Not?

Sorry I haven't been around but work has been UGLY and there's not much time for anything. I started rehab last week and have to admit, I'm wondering why I'm there. The exercise is extremely light and they don't want me to do anything more than what they say. To be honest, I'm walking faster...

Newbie here; I need advice... would I be out of line in asking for a second opinion?

Re-ditto on the 2nd. Now...what's your insurance? HMO or PPO? If you're on an HMO, remember that you'll need a referral to a specialist. If you're in a PPO, you can choose anyone you want but network providers will be less out of pocket. Hopefully you'll have a lot of choices. As people have...

Where can I look for past medical records?

Generally - 7 years is the standard. Also given electronic recording, many people will shred the paper files as soon as they can. (or microfiche them) Some of the record retention will depend on the filing system and storage space at your providers office. We ran into a similar situation. My...

    First day back at work!

I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home 3 days a week. For me, getting back to a regular schedule was such a relief. (well...that and getting my driving reinstated) I can't tell you how much better I feel and how much energy I have. It's been 3 months now and life is great! Still have some...

    Insomnia at it's worst

Well....the stress at work has started back big time and my brain is racing all night long. So...I'm back on the Lunesta. Hopefully the cycle will resolve itself soon. I'm also still on metoprolol and notice some heart pounding every so often. I've mentioned it to the cardiologist and she's not...

    Rehab Secret

I'm going for my initial rehab visit on Friday. I'll have to stash this little gem away for future use. Is it helping?

    travel to india

this is a very timely discussion. I'm going to Delhi in July. (yeah....I know, I know....bad timing) I'm going to see my PCP to get some advice on pre-flying advice. I read somewhere that acidophilus pills are a good idea. I'm not on blood thinners but am a little concerned about the food issue.

    Toprol XL (Metaprolol) Withdrawal

I was discharge on Metaprolol as well. I had 2 pills per day and have since been dropped to 1 per day. Early on, I had some anxiousness but that's seemed to calm down. I've always had insomnia and take something to assist with that. It will be interesting to see just how long my cardiologist...

    Still waiting....

    Started rehab today...

I just realized that it's been almost a month since I received the paperwork for rehab and I haven't done anything with it. SOOOOOOOOOOOO......just scheduled the initial appointment. Now that I'm back to work, I'm in serious juggle mode to make work and rehab fit together. My cardiologist told...

Main problem now - severe insomnia

I had insomnia as well. The other issue I had was (for lack of a better term) tension. My body would tense up and I felt anxious. It seems to be better. But it was really nerve racking for a few weeks.

    3 week update

Excellent news! What's the word about lifting? (reminds me - I need to complete the paperwork for rehab)

So my surgery sucked...and it's not over yet

Glad to hear you're finally on the mend. It situations like yours that remind all of us that each situation is unique. I hope you're up and feeling better soon.

    The shock value PO.

After my OHS, I felt it was a walk in the part compared to the open gall bladder surgery I had. That was FAR worse that this. I'm lucky though - everything was positively textbook. Given my partner is a nurse and we have a big circle of nurse friends, my care both in-hospital and after couldn't...
