Health Insurance Cover 2nd Opinions?

I would like to visit two surgeons in my area. Does anyone know if health insurance typically will cover getting a second opinion? My first is tomorrow. Thanks!

Hi Mike. Call the Member Service Department of your insurance company. They will be able to give you an answer on how second opinions are covered under your plan.

Mine did, with no questions asked. At the time of surgery, I was insured with Humana.

Almost all plans cover a 2nd opinion. Many will require it for certain procedures and tests. Call Customer Service. And.....GET THE PERSON'S NAME AND DATE OF CALL! Insurance carriers record their calls. If there's ever a problem, refer back to the information so they can listen to the call. If they gave you incorrect information, most companies will honor the advice. Do you have a Certificate of Coverage? Be sure to read it. That's the 'end all' of information.
