Calling all my valver friends who had surgery before 30 yrs of age.

AmyR, its what you make of it. I'm as active as before surgery. Set new PRs and lifted more weights, ran same or longer, tossed more kettlebells, cut my hair just as short ;) The only thing that changes is your outlook on life, it becomes better.

    Still Here (Hospital)

Make sure the rash is not an allergy to Neosporin, etc. I had no idea, but the stuff/dressing they put on your wound (neosporin + etc) is something that some people, including me, are really allergic to. Solution: wash with soap twice daily. Will go away in 5-8 days, depending on severity.

Daily impact to your life from being on blood thinners...?

    1. 10pm every night, alarm goes off on my phone and I take my vitamins and 1 warfarin pill. TBH, the alarm is for Vitamins, I always know to take Warfarin. When traveling I take it 10pm EST, this way I do not need to time-shift when I go back home. 2. I have to avoid some collard greens and...

Hooray - I now have a Coaguchek XS

Coaguchek XS gave him a 4.2. What is interesting is that pro-time for all the meters was around 4.19, and when I was comparing my INR to Pro-time it was basically a multipler of 10. When I had a blood draw and used Coaguchek XS within minutes of blood draw it was off by .1, it was .1 higher...

    9 days after the surgery

I see you only have posted this other thread here: http://www.valvereplacement.org/forums/showthread.php?41401-High-heart-rate I wanted to check-in and see how your recovery is going at this point 5-weeks later. I liked your original post, it was very honest.

    Clumsydancer Post Op

Nate, I wanted to reply to your post and mention that you can walk a bit more at this stage. No need to lift heavy weights or run, but you should be able to do lots more walking. It's no easy task, but a tiny bit of pushing yourself is allowed. The more you walk the faster you will feel...

    Limitations

Once you recover from surgery you can probably pick your sports up where you left off. I know I did and I believe you will too.

    One year!

A bit belated, but congrats Tom. I take 10mgs of coumadin and if I go up a weight class I might have to start taking 11. I spoke to a nurse and was assured that coumadin dosage is very individual, and some might get away with 3mgs daily, while others need 10+. Keep on ticking.

What an awesome attitude and a post. Heather, you will do really well. I know it!! Also, when your dog walker walks your dog post-op feel free to join them for those walks as well. Matter of fact, they will be walking your dog and you ;) You seem to be prepared, I would suggest practicing...
