    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

It has indeed hit the US shores! I got mine in February. I wanted to buy it, but the new company only provides it, along with the strips and lancets, as part of their monitoring service.

The benefit of an idiot friend

This had me laughing!!! I called it my "Slice and Dice" - breaking me open like a Maryland crab! And my "valve job". 17 years later, I still can't read the full surgery report. I bail about a few sentences in, it's too graphic.... I can't watch these things on TV either.

    17 years with my SynerGraft!

Thought I'd check in to celebrate my 17 year anniversary today!! I can't believe it's been that long since I received my CryoLife SynerGraft aortic homograft. The tissue is supposed to hopefully last 18 years, so I am so thankful that it's lasted this long. I have a slight leak in the new...

    Ten years!

Today I'm clocking ten years of borrowed time on my "used" valve! I feel like it's my birthday, or that I should be handing out bubble gum cigars or something! Seems like a long time ago, but also seems like yesterday. Back then, I heard it said that tissue valves last an average of ten years...

    ValveXchange: Lifetime Tissue Valve Platform

Hi luvsgod (I like the name!!), I had gone back to Mayo Clinic for my one-year follow-up exam with my surgeon. I was planning to ask him about my wires, as I knew some people had had them removed. I could feel one of them through my skin, as it was bumped out a bit, and I could actually move...

    ValveXchange: Lifetime Tissue Valve Platform

Very interesting future technology! http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=80253&p=RssLanding&cat=news&id=1582987 Quote: Steven G. Anderson, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of CryoLife, said, "We believe that the ValveXchange technology is an extremely compelling next...

Eight years with my aortic SynerGraft!

Thanks everyone!! Sometimes it all seems like a dream. And in some ways, I don't mind if it stays like that! :) I hope you are all doing well too, it's nice to see some of my buddies on here! John and Rosso, I hope you're doing well. And Sylvia, I hope your hubby is well too. I was really...

Eight years with my aortic SynerGraft!

Just checking in today to celebrate the eight years of "borrowed time" since my Slice and Dice! In two weeks I'll have my annual echo, so hopefully it will be business as usual! Just wanted to give thanks to God, and to all my friends here, and the invaluable support of VR! I couldn't have...

    CryoLife pulmonary SynerGraft valve

Hi Oaktree, Interesting point! I will have to look up that book. I hadn't really given the collection process much thought with respect to myself and my valve. Hopefully this issue will continue to be brought to light, and ultimately be brought under some sort of federal regulation (if not...

    CryoLife pulmonary SynerGraft valve

Yes, actually, I have had quite a few phone discussions with John both before and after his surgeries and his terrible ordeal. And yes, CryoLife did voluntarily pull the SG valves from the market about four months after I received mine, after which I had a little email discussion with my...

    CryoLife pulmonary SynerGraft valve

Looks like CryoLife just got FDA approval for their SynerGraft(R) Processed Pulmonary Human Heart Valve. I received an aortic SG almost six years ago. The hope is that this would be a long-lasting tissue; the valve is "washed" of donor nuclei, then repopulated with cells from the recipient...

    back from the edge

Hey John! Welcome back, buddy!! You had me (and other friends) rather worried when we heard about your situation back in November. I wanted to give you a call and see how you were doing, but your son said you had checked into a rehab hospital for a while and I wasn't sure how long you'd be...

    Update: CryoLife aortic SynerGraft homograft

Folks: Here is the link to the recently published article on the study at Mayo Clinic, where the progress of patients with the new CryoLife aortic SynerGraft homograft was followed for one year: Aortic root replacement with a novel decellularized cryopreserved aortic homograft: Postoperative...

    What would you say?

Last night someone gave me that "when you least expect it" line. If I had a dime for every time I heard that....! "Fall over a chair", I'll have to remember that one! Then she told me (again) the story of her daughter who, at the "old" age of 25, had "given up, thinking she'll never get...
