Getting Closer - surgery on the calendar pending no changes

Oh two other things.... I guess Dy. Lytle's office asked if they went through chest or groin when my mom had the valvuloplasty done in 97 and when she said groin, they said he'd be happy to hear that (I assume because it'll be a "normal" sternum to go through vs a recrack? Also - his office...

Getting Closer - surgery on the calendar pending no changes

Hi all, Lots going on mid last week and today in the scheduling world. My mom has an appointment with Dr. Hobbs at Cleveland on 12/15 and she's scheduled for a catherization and other labs on the 16th. Apparently Dr. Lytle and Dr. Petterson have looked at things and Dr. Lytle wants to see my...

Can someone tell me about internet, etc at CCF?

Thanks John, that's good to know. And your timing is great because I was just about to make a post giving the latest on some news we got today from there.... looks like we're getting closer.

Continuous chest compression CPR no mouth to mouth as brought up in another thread

You know, this is actually a question I thought of while researching the surgery my mom is likely to have. Let's say some period of time post surgery she has to have chest compressions/CPR for whatever reason. 2 scenarios - not fully healed sternum and fully healed sternum. Are chest...

    Dad's Testing is scheduled!

Andrea - so glad to hear things are moving along smoothly!! Did you drive out to Cleveland from NJ or fly? If you're driving, you're going not too far from my area.... probably taking 80 straight across... wave if you're going by :-)

    A-Fib keeps happening

My mom is in constant a-fib and has been on coumadin for 27 years (uneventfully other than easier bruising). I was actually going to post to see if someone could tell me how they knew they were in a-fib because she doesn't feel anything at all because of it like racing heart or fluttering and...

    Getting closer - testing scheduled

Yeah I was actually reading about that.... since it's been 2 months, I'm figuring it's not a huge emergency and they know that she will be having dental work done that is scheduled to start right before she goes out where she'll have a temporary set of caps put in the front bottom teeth (6 caps...

    Getting closer - testing scheduled

Hi all, As some of you know, my mom is in the "living room" on a MV replacement. We had thought she'd be out to Cleveland and back recovering already but..... Anyway, got a call today from Dr. Hobbs' office that they want her out there the 15th and 16th of December for pre surgery testing...

    Dad's Testing is scheduled!

Glad to hear that things went according to plan. I'm with Scott, didn't expect that kind of waiting.... wow. Please keep us posted.

    Dad's Testing is scheduled!

Sending good thoughts your way. Please keep us posted. I'm soon to be in your position, going from PA to CCF and waiting while my mom is in surgery.

    Closer to a date

Hopefully we'll hear something next week. At this rate, since it's apparently not some huge emergency, she's likely going to want to wait until after the holidays but we'll see what they say being as we can't set their schedule :)

    Closer to a date

Yeah she had wanted to get it sorted but what was supposed to be a simple repair to a single caps turned into needing to take all 6 conjoined caps off and remake so it will be more involved as far as cutting them off as one unit (dumb way to put them on to start if you ask me but it's porcelain...

    Closer to a date

More waiting... this is sort of ridiculous and VERY nerve racking. More waiting... this is sort of ridiculous and VERY nerve racking. Ok so it's been about 6 weeks since all this came up with my mom's local cardiologist saying he thinks it's time to replace her MV. I did research on surgeons...

    Mechanical valves in elderly patients

FWIW - we're dealing with the same question here. My mom is waiting to get a date for MV replacement. She's 71. Has been on coumadin almost 30 years with no issues (other than easier bruising). Her local cardio and GP are saying no question, mechanical given that she's in otherwise good health...

Can someone tell me about internet, etc at CCF?

Thanks for the tip. I have a pretty crummy immune system and I tend to get sick when I get run down so I'm pretty conscious of that and also will be taking some extra vitamin packs (Emergen-C things) as well to keep my system running well. I also don't want to risk potentially having a bug and...

Can someone tell me about internet, etc at CCF?

Thanks Carolyn. I'll be the only one out there with mom so no worries about too many people at once.

Can someone tell me about internet, etc at CCF?

Thanks Michelle, it's good to have some insight of what to expect going into things. I am hoping to be able to catch up on work and keep that schedule as normal as possible when mom is resting but we'll see how that goes. Now if we could just get a date. It's been just over a month since we met...

Can someone tell me about internet, etc at CCF?

Thanks for the insight. The no password thing definitely sounds like a better option.

Can someone tell me about internet, etc at CCF?

Thanks! You know, I subscribe to someone's blog now that I work with and was going to look there. Didn't know how easy it was from the update side but now that I know they're straightforward, I'll have a look.
