You know, this is actually a question I thought of while researching the surgery my mom is likely to have. Let's say some period of time post surgery she has to have chest compressions/CPR for whatever reason. 2 scenarios - not fully healed sternum and fully healed sternum. Are chest compressions ok? Do I need to put a sign on her that says "don't compress my chest"? LOL! (I'm pretty sure she wouldn't go for that).

thanks!

These new guidelines are mainly for the out of the hospital setting. If a patient needs chest compressions whether immediately post op or much later, I believe the protocol is to do the chest compressions, or defibrillate if medically indicated.
