    Low INR

    So, what was the follow-up?
  2. Bill B

    Incision question.

Glad to hear it Ovie. Sounds like you have a great doc. Hope things are straight up for you from here on out.

    TheGymGuy Updates.. 3/27/2012

Vadim: I was KIDDING when I suggested the next thing you might tell us is that you are being discharged! Stunning! There's no sense in telling you to take it slow and easy. It just doesn't seem to apply to you. I know I told you not to worry and it would not be so bad, etc., but I didn't...

    Low INR

    Repeat the test.

    Coumadin and " romance"

The general, whether little or not, is going to be just fine. Where does this stuff come from?

    TheGymGuy Updates.. 3/27/2012

Wouldn't you know it! Hardly a day after surgery and you're online posting. Next thing you'll be telling us your getting discharged in the morning! Please take it easy, Vadim. Anyway, I am tickled to hear things are going so well. 50 steps is great. A little more each time with as much...

    TheGymGuy Updates.. 3/27/2012

Excellent. If he's already awake and talking, he's ahead of schedule, like I expected. I too had NO symptoms and was grilled relentlessly by my surgeon and other doubters. It happens. I attribute it to my marathon running history even though that was many years ago. V will be out of bed...

Surgery date has been set to 03/27/2012

Go get em, Vadim! And please, no power lifting the hospital bed, OK?

    New Here

OK, that and his arthritic hip are certainly enough to make recovery much more difficult. I too was very anemic post op but I only got 1 unit of blood. I think your husband has been through the wringer more than the average AVR patient. He will get better, but with what he has been through it...

    New Here

I had a similar experience in that I was essentially fine right up to the day of surgery and I could barely walk after, but I expected to feel like I got run over by a truck from the surgery. I had a long operation with a lot of aorta patching too. I'm not sure anyone made it clear to me...

    Had my Pre-OP appointment

Oops! Thanks for reminding me. I need to finish mine! I'm another middle class fool whose tax rate is higher then Romney's.

First day of Cardiac Rehab complete.

Ovie: That is so neat to run into your old teacher. I'm so glad to see the rest of the people warmed up to you too. They were probably just too shocked to see such a young guy. The social side of this is almost as important as the exercise, so don't feel bad about slacking off to take time...

    Had my Pre-OP appointment

Yeah, I see you are burning the midnight oil. The anticipation is nerve racking. Us asymptomatic guys have it a lot harder because we lack that critical evidence that this is a real problem that needs to be fixed now. Hang in there!

    Surgery all done

Boy, your course is more benign than mine! Are you sure they actually did it? I woke up in the ICU after what seemed like a microsecond. I was completely awake and never had one iota of pain at all during recovery. If I hadn't been weak as a puppy for several weeks and have this 11"...

    Had my Pre-OP appointment

6am? They are letting you sleep in. I had to be there at 5:30. Look forward to hearing from you after it's all over. I was wiped out enough that I could not work the computer to communicate online for 4 or 5 days. Just saying, don't try to be a hero like some others here who were posting...

    Pre-Op talk with surgeon

Why do you doubt the repair will last 10-15 years? A repair is not like receiving a bioprosthesis which has a very limited lifespan in younger people. This is your own valve reconstructed, primarily used to treat regurgitation. I gather he has told you he will not do a repair unless your...

    Chest tightness.

I can't say I ever had chest tightness. My scar has been sensitive to being stretched when I reach for something, and still is sometimes, even more than 2 years out.

    What affects INR

I've not come across any evidence that exercise affects warfarin metabolism or response. Warfarin is metabolized by an enzyme system in the liver called cytochrome P-450. MANY drugs are metabolized by the same system or a subset of it. Skeletal muscle metabolism and liver enzyme metabolic...

    Dangers of alcohol on BT.

Ovie: I think many health care workers lay down the law and discourage alcohol because it is the safest position to take. But practically speaking you can have a several beers when you want. Just don't make a habit of it. Carry on.
