    Post Operative Cognitive Dysfunction

Interesting that it says it IMPROVES memory rather than just mitigating the effects of Los of it. I guess the key words are under high load. So by not trying to remember things and being stressed about forgetting them it reduces the load?

    Time for mitral valve replacement

Or that moment when you FINALLY fall asleep and your medication drop alarm goes off? The exact opposite. They put hubby's second iv port right by where he elbow bends and everything's he bent it the beeping would start saying occlusion- patient side. I got there at 4am this morning and he...

12 week update: Work in process

They did cardioversion today and he is currently in normal sinus rhythm. This morning, before the procedure, I put my ear to his back and could HEAR his heart rhythm. It was SO out of whack. I didn't need a machine to tell me that his heart was throwing a temper tantrum. So the doctors spanked...

Longest period known before aortic valve replacement needed

Did they tell your parents the murmur was "nothing"? That's what they told hubby's parents in the 70s. They said it was probably from his heart being positioned slightly different due to his pectus excavatum. He felt capt for years, but he thought it was because he drank so much. After being...

Longest period known before aortic valve replacement needed

Well... 😆 he is currently in the hospital after aortic valve replacement and ascending aortic aneurysm repair. 😉 he was in afib post surgery but CardioVersion (shocking the heart) and now has normal sinus rhythm. Fingers crossed it stays. We are waiting on inr to be in therapeutic range so they...

Longest period known before aortic valve replacement needed

My husband found out he had moderate AS, and possible BAV, in January 2023 and by June 2024 it had moved into severe. That said, he could have had moderate AS for years prior. He didn't know he had a heart issue until they told him about the AS. The first time a doctor expressed concern about...

12 week update: Work in process

Thank you. I just need reassurance sometimes. I get in my head and then head down research paper rabbit holes about rare cases... LOL

    Hubby back in a-fib. *sigh*

They have not done a CT, they have done three echos. According to those reports all the parts and pieces look "normal". What I read says the mechanical valve can cause turbulence, or that there could be a blockage due to plaque coming loose, or damage from surgical staples... The thing about...

2 week post-op: Hemoglobin, hematocrit, RBC remain depressed

My husband's numbers are very close to what yours were, some were initially lower, but then came up just enough for them to not do a transfusion. RBC 2.82 HGB 8 HCT 25.2 Right now he has a high WBC and platelet count to go with it.

2 week post-op: Hemoglobin, hematocrit, RBC remain depressed

My husband is day 11 post-surgery today, still in the hospital. They almost did a transfusion on him yesterday, but then the numbers had gone up by a couple. He is still VERY anemic, and even after adding iron into his many meds the number is moving up very slowly. He has a long way to go to...

12 week update: Work in process

It helps to know these aren't life threatening things we are dealing with. I just keep worrying... I want him to be healthy and happy and have a good outcome from surgery. I worry he will end up with a new heart problem from fixing the old one.

12 week update: Work in process

Nope. Yet another hitch. Back in a-fib. Still has far too much fluid around his heart and lungs. One thing after another. Day 11 and counting.

Hubby was the same. Really bad memory. But the searching for the right word thing is definitely new.

    Hubby back in a-fib. *sigh*

I know you guys must be sick of me by now. :( I didn't drive to the hospital today because I had so many things I had to take care of at home. Hubby usually does these things, so it is my job while he gets well. I felt so guilty already, then I he texted he is back in a-fib. So, I went and...
