Hang in there. Don’t borrow trouble worrying about tests and notes. Personally I did not look at any of my labs or tests while in hospital. Hubs reviewed and tons of stuff was out of range / sketchy but we both think, we don’t know how to interpret this in these specific circumstances. Hubs always says, he decides if he thinks the doctor is good, then he asks “do they look worried.” And let them call the shots. Trying to rule out stopping warfarin is madness.

If being home is his top priority, he could have skipped this whole project and just died on his couch in a year or whatever - but he’d be home ….. he wants to be home and HEALTHY. My heart really does break for him that it’s taking so long but he doesn’t have much choice. Can you imagine a too early discharge and the havoc and danger that would cause. Better a day late than a day too early.

Take care of yourself as best you can. My FIL is a very cantankerous patient who always wants out and it’s rough on the the family. Many a time have I said “Pop you’re gonna stay here till you’re safe to go home. And I’m getting myself some coffee.”

You guys are in my prayers.
Yeah, I can't really interpret them either, which is how I ended up in the rabbit hole reading studies specifically related to what having those numbers after valve replacement mean. LOL :p That's what I did with all his echo reports prior to surgery which is why I knew he was getting surgery two months before the doctor told us officially. Now I'm in the post-surgery anemia rabbit hole, but most of the studies refer to pre-surgery anemia. ;)

Glad you're home! Are you making sure he gets plenty of iron, preferably through his diet and not pills, as they can cause constipation? I had a single unit transfused during surgery and was still anemic when I left the hospital. Spinach, beef, salmon, beans, almonds, oats, and more will help with anemia. It takes some time to build back red cells.
He did have a platelet transfusion during surgery. I'm sure they got his blood test results by now from us going in this morning and that no call means we are holding steady or trending up for the anemia. I hope. LOL

LOL His inr went up to 2.9!!
2.9 is not a bad number ... anything between 2.0 and 3.0 is pretty darn good. Even 3.5 isn't at all risky

pay attention to the Incident colum and read across the INR's for the green zones (which I've annotated in this graph table and graph from a study

LOL His inr went up to 2.9!! I was wondering when he got a nose bleed at Costco if maybe the number was too high. It was no big deal and stopped super quick. It seemed quicker than the nose bleeds I have seen him get in the past. So, they halved his dosage for tonight and have him set up for another test on Thursday.
Remind me what kind of valve he got. Trying to figure out why they'd half his dose for 2.9. For every mechanical valve I'm familiar with, that's in range. Even for the On-X, which supposedly can have a lower INR, they keep it a bit higher this close to the surgery.

I don't believe a platelet transfusion would help with anemia from blood loss.

They should wait a week to let the change of the dose take affect.

That makes it look like 2.5-4 should be the range... Incidence is regarding bleeds? Or thrombosis?

They were worried it went up that quickly overnight I think... He got a St. Jude's.

The platelet transfusion was during surgery. They used that and recycled cells. I don't know what it was for, it was just in the notes from surgery. His numbers STILL aren't up on MyChart. I am annoyed. It is two days since he got the test and no one called. GRRR...

Yes, exactly.
I bruise a bit more above 3. This is me after walking directly into the towbar of my 4WD.

I can't tell how bad it is from that pic. LOL But I can say.... you are as freaking white as I am. Poor soul.

Oooh, I can see that.... On another note.... my husband scooted under the car to help my son place the jack because my son didn't know how. GRRRR.... He shouldn't be doing that ****. He said he was careful.... Blah

For me, 2-4 is not anything I worry about. A little below 2 is more concerning than a little above 4. However, I've been on Warfarin 26 years and nothing really bothers me.

I'm not sure if my Cardiologist uses the same Coumadin clinic as your husband goes to. I work with Cathy and Patricia. They don't tell me how to adjust as my experience is more than theirs and I know my body, but he isn't there yet. In my opinion, they should have waited a couple of days and tested again.

This is when I slipped getting out of the shower and bounced between the toilet and tub. My INR was 2.6. It went well into my pants and eventually down my left leg. I also had a broken rib.

Cathy Ramsey? If so then YES! LOL We are getting his blood draw at the Comprehensive Care in Pearland though, to save us a drive into Houston tomorrow.
