I hope you all don't think I'm dumb as a post, but since I don't have the kind of heart disease that is caused by or controlled by diet, I don't know what is "heart healthy."

Oh, I can guess: Grilled vegetables -- IN. Deep-fried beer-battered steak covered with onion rings -- OUT.

But how low-fat should these recipes be? No red meat? No dark-meat chicken? Do they need to be low-salt?

I am on low salt intake. I also watch the fat contents in foods. But I love real butter and cream soups <G>

But like Cooker I'm no saint I sin whenever it pleases me. I just don't sin everyday.

I do try to stay away from fried foods and I hate red meat, so I eat lots of baked chicken, and fish, and also pork chops. Tons of veggies also!

I think if you eat healthy for 90% of the time you are doing great. A well rounded meal is better.

Stay away from the junk foods and fast food places.

There are a lot of red meats that can be low in fat if you trim properly. I would think any recipe that is somewhat healthy can be posted as we can filter out the ones that do not apply to us based on what our requirements are.

I personally don't care what recipes you post, but if you know it's not heart healthy, please say so up front, but there are too many good recipes in the world not to share. ;)

Does anyone have a recipe for deep-fried beer-battered rattle snake? ;)

Jeff.

lo-carb 4 me

lo-carb 4 me

I may be wrong but the "Heart Healthy" diet is also dependent on other medical factors/problems we all may:cool: have. The Cath that sent me to the surgeon showed my Coronary Arteries are fine. I have another problem. SUGAR is my drug of choice. If I can get going really good, I can loose lots on Atkins type lo-carb. That includes 1/2 & 1/2, butter, bacon, etc. NOT what most would call HEART HEALTHY but GOOD! It's the sugar in the blood that causes the Cholesterol to to stick around in the blood. That is what I found in the ATKINS DIET book. NOT my advice for ANYONE. Do your own research and try it if you want.
