Hi, all--
Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers. You are all so wonderful!

My mother came home from the hospital today after being held because her blood sugar was in the 400s-500s. It's now down to 230 at last check, but she is comfortable and resting. I've been helping out at home so she doesn't feel she has to do so much.

Now, for the news...
The CAT Scan revealed cancerous cells on her pancreas. :( Mom has a consultation with a cancer specialist on Monday, and her surgery (still unscheduled) will be at USC University Hospital, where I had my valve repair. I'm glad that the doctor will be taking care of scheduling her surgery, because when I had to deal with the office there to schedule mine, I was about to have a fit as my chart got lost for a few days, and some of the office staff weren't very cooperative.

I'm trying to stay positive, and my mom is in good spirits. All she could say when she got home was, "I'm glad they found this early, and if I never had the problem with my bile duct, they never would have found the cancer cells." Blessing in disguise? I just hope everything turns out well.

Thanks again for your prayers...
Debi

I am so sorry to hear about your mother. It sounds like they found it relatively early though, right?

I will keep her in my prayers.

Sorry to hear about your mum, wishing you the best of luck and hope everything goes well. Paula

So sorry to read this, Debi. Early enough to operate has to be good news. Prayers and best wishes to all of you.

Thanks for the update Deb but I'm sorry the news is what it is. My mother-in-law had pancreatic cancer but it was very widespread when it was detected. One of our best friends also had it and he was treated for bursitis in his shoulder for months before the real root of his pain was discovered and by then he was past help for treatment. It sounds like your mom's case is different. You and yours are in my prayers.

Debi,

Sorry to hear this news but it sounds like it was caught early - always a "good" thing.

I will be praying for your mom and your family.

*So very sorry to hear this news Debi. My brother died from Pancreatic cancer 3 years ago. He was only 35 years old. They didnt catch it in time and it was too late to operate, so things sound hopeful for your Mum. Very Best Wishes and prayers coming for you all.

Debi,

Prayers and positive thoughts are on the way for your Mom. I wish you well also as you deal with your Mom's illness. It is not easy being the caregiver to a sick parent. Take care of yourself.

Susie

Deb -

I am very sorry to hear about your mother. I found it interesting what you said in another post about the month of April. My Mother was diagnosed in April of 2000 with advanced breast cancer after she had been having severe pain in her upper abdomen and they did a CAT scan and saw spots on her liver and a large spot in her breast. So, April for me, also, is not a good month to say the least. :(

May God give you all strength in the coming months as your mom goes through treatments and also I hope you will find a way to experience moments of joy and happiness along the way.

Again, I'm so sorry to hear this news.
