Horrible. Wildfires all over San Diego County. News is calling it "From Malibu to Mexico." I'm having post traumatic stress from my valve replacement post-op experience four years ago, when we nearly lost our home in the last huge fires two weeks after my valve replacement.

Briansmom and Dot4toto and others may be affected also.

Very scary. We have friends with kids at Pepperdine and just couldn't imagine having to evacuate a whole campus (not to mention being worried about your kids far from home!) Dreadful situation. My husband grew up in LA and knows how often that area seems to be fuel for fire.

Wishing you (and everyone in the area) a safe week and a speedy dousing of these manic fires.

Marguerite

I'm so sorry that this is happening. It is awful.
Take care of yourself, Susan, and try not to worry.

So far so good! However the freeway is closed 1 mile south of our house and is also closed about 10 miles north now. I have 1 family from my son's school that got evacuated and brought their kids and dogs here to my house. the fires are all around us but the wind is not blowing them this way. Sooo, as long as the wind does not change we are safe.

Susan,
This is a really scary situation. I have a good work friend who lives in San Diego. Someone from her team called me today to see if I had a cell phone number for her because they had not been able to get in touch with her today and knew she was in one of the areas being evacuated. Well I knew my friend didn't have a cell phone (?!) and we began trying to figure out how we could find her. I started to get really upset and frustrated but someone finally told me she had called in and had gone to her daughter's house. When I talk to her I plan to suggest getting a cell phone!!

Still not evacuated yet, but we got the phone call that said get ready. Fires are north-west and south-west of us. The good news (for us) is that the wind is blowing mostly westerly, so if there are no new fires I think that we will be safe.

Many of our employees got evacuated, but so far no word of lost homes for any of them.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Still at home. The fire is only about 5 miles north of us right now, very smoky here Can't even see across our valley right now.

Be safe everyone - get out even before you are required. I have a friend who lost his home in Rancho Bernardo and a couple friends in Malibu that are in danger of losing theirs. However, my RB friend said - we got out early and are safe - eveything else is replaceable.

Deanne,

I am sending my prayers to you and your loved ones, and all others involved. On a much smaller scale, we had a threat in the Blue Ridge Mountains with wildfires a year ago, though we were never evacuated. But the threat there in CA seems to be hundreds of times worse. Terrible. Be safe!

Sending lots of prayers westward to ya"ll and everyone in the pathways of those horrible wildfires. This is such an awful disaster, my heart goes out for you. Most of the people interviewed on the news stress that they are just thankful that their families are safe and together. As said earlier in another post, homes can be replaced, but loved ones can't. All this extreme weather, wild fires, the war in Iraq, drug use (need I go on?) makes a person wonder if scripture is being fullfilled faster than ever. Please keep us posted about your safety and well being!! God Bless

Reverse 911 call received here at 5am this morning. Evacuated twice. Sneaked back home. House still standing. What a relief. Briansmom knows where we live so she knows what I'm talking about. Some of our friends lost their homes. It is horrendous. Over a million people in SD county, a third, have already been mandatorily evacuated. Winds are greatly reduced now. Field next to our home burned. Palomar Mountain, what you're seeing currently burning on the news, is one of the places we were supposed to evacuate to but we knew that was a bad call and traveled another direction.

But the hardworking firefighters and policemen and patrolmen and sheriffs and deputies, etc., deserve tremendous appreciation.

It may not be over. I'm amazed that our power was restored. It was out for several days the last time because of hundreds of miles of burned power lines and poles.

I appreciate those members here who cared enough to write a kind word. Thank you tremendously from the bottom of my sincere but faulty heart. Thank you.
