This came from a friend in Texas. I thought is was very interesting.

Okay, now let's look at the difference.

The largest evacuation in the history of the United States with people in traffic jams for hours. NO FIGHTS, NO THEFTS, everyone interviewed remained calm and in a good mood.

The traffic jams and lack of gas was because more people than ever anticipated did what the governor asked them to do - leave.

Let's look at the damage - lot's of it in Texas. NO LOOTING. Four burglaries were comitted in Galveston (we don't call them looters, we call them burglars.) Four burglars were caught, and the police said that the inmates had already been moved to higher ground, so there was plenty of room in the jail and he hoped the criminals could swim!

Members of the Houston Police Department were not required to stay and work. ALL OF THEM DID. 500 New Orleans cops are still MIA (corresponding to the number of large TV's stolen from WAl Mart.)

When told that we "learned from Katrina," the head of the Texas National Guard simply said: "No Way." Texas has planned for this and rehearsed for this on a continuous basis for years. You can't learn to so properly prepare based on the unpreparendness of a state one week earlier.

Now what is NOT different is that greater Houston probably has more blacks, African-Americans, poor people, whatever you want to call them. The difference is education. Houston ISD is ranked #1 in the country for large city schools. The government is run by all different colors, and the state is run by both democrats and republicans who work together (our former governor - now president - was famous for this) and spend money on what it is given to them for. We don't pilfer and steal and then cry that this is a white plot to run the black s out of town. (I dare Jesse Jackson to come into Houston and even try to pull that one off.)

Houston may be the fattest city in the county (now that New Orleans doesn't exist) but Houstonians know how to get off their fat *****, help others, and take care of themselves.

If you want to help out with relief, please donate to the SPCA or to the Red Cross, but ask that your donation be earmarked specifically to reimburse Houston for what we had to spend on Louisianans that they said they can't pay us back cuz they spent the money on other things (let's see, the Chief of Police of New Orlenas went to the Saints' opening game in NEW JERSEY after KATRINA! ! !)

I wasn't born in Texas but I got there as fast as I could

GOD BLESS TEXAS ! !

Glenda,

I assume that you are also trying to get back to Texas as fast as you can, since I noticed that your location says Missouri?

Ross,

Great picture, and I think I recognize some of my neighbors! However, since we've had so little rain and so much heat, and I can't afford a $500 water bill and a $500 electricity bill, our grass isn't near that healthy so I guess they were visiting friends somewhere else in Texas.

Lisa, no I'm not going to Texas. I was born and raised in Missouri but I have family in Texas. My uncle got caught right in the middle of all the traffic for over 13 hours. He's not a very well person and was trying to make it back to Missouri. He has bad diabetes and his eyes gave out on him. It was 4:00 in the morning and he pulled off the road and put his seat back and went to sleep. He woke up with a woman knocking on his window asking him if he was okay. He said yes and she convinced him to come in for a cup of coffee. Unknown to him he had pulled off in front of a Methodist church and this was the pastor's wife. They brought him into their home, sit him down in a recliner and he slept some more. They fixed him breakfast and he stayed with them all day. My sister-in-law and her husband went down and drove him back. This Methodist church had opened their home and their church. All their class rooms were full of people and their animals. Their members were taking lemonaide and water to people stranded on the highway. Now that's what I call witnessing and do what God would want you to do. An amazing true story. He also said that while in the traffic jam and cars were moving at a snall's pace and when traffice was completely stopped people would get out of their cars and come back to visit. Everyone was so nice and concerned about how other people were doing.
