I lived in North Central Oregon (The Dalles) in the same house my dad grew up in. I went to college but always came home for the summer. When I graduated from college I wanted a change so I got a job in San Diego. I met my husband who was and is in the navy. We spent 4 years in San Diego County. Since then we have lived in Monterey, CA, Newport RI, Everett WA, Pearl City and Aiea HI, Bushey (London) England, and Annapolis MD. My husband retires from the navy in a year so who knows where we will end up after that! I do understand the people who stay in one place to be close to family. Almost all of our families live in Spokane WA, Pendelton and The Dalles OR, or Boise ID. If we ever managed to live close our families would have been able to see our now almost grown children more. They and my children have missed a lot but yet my children have traveled all over Europe and the US so they have had experiences they wouldn't have had if we didn't move a lot. I really can see the benefits of both ways. I started as a farmers daughter with all my family around and have ended up a navy wife with little family nearby. We all do treasure our yearly July trip to the Northwest to see family!

Cort,our 40th anniversary is in Nov. We are taking 2 weeks off for it. Everyone says we should do a cruise,or fly to Vegas,etc. We already know what we are doing. We are driving to Tullahoma.Tn. for a few days,then Tunica,Ms. for a few days,then to Branson,Missouri for about 5 days,then back to Biloxi,then back to Tullahoma(granddaughters live there) and then back to Ga. That is my idea of a great anniversary trip. We are taking our time and stopping at every place that looks interesting.

Sounds like a dang fine nice trip to me . My goodness ... I would drive ANYWHERE if I could .

In July 2003, one of my cousins in CA got married over the weekend of July 4th. Sadly, I didn't have enough vacation time to drive, so I had to fly. My sis, her then boyfriend (now hubby), and my other 2 cousins all flew out together. It was a great time, but I sssoo missed driving................. One of these days, I'll get enough time to drive out to CA....not sure how soon that'll be, tho .



And, Marguerite ... no, I do not plan to "out" anyone on my radio show ... remember, it's about the music ... I barely talk at all anyway .

Well of course not....I was just messing with Cooker (who is obviously far more clever than I, seein' as how he's out-witting me here).

I'm really enjoying this thread and will be following it to see of others experiences. It's such a rich and wonderful world.....whichever way you play the living of it!

I was born in Milwaukee, Wis., while Daddy went to engineering school. My parents returned to Texas when I was 6-9 months old. I grew up in Dallas, got my first newspaper job in the Dallas area. Moved to Shreveport, La., when I was 26, then to Fort Worth when I was 28. Been here since then.

My husband was born in Stephenville TX. Was in the Air Force, served at a NATO base in Iceland, at Warren AFB in Wyoming and in Texas. Moved to Fort Worth when he left the Air Force.

Hmmm.....good question since I feel I am the only West Virginian on this website for the most part!!! Not a good sign!

To say I LOVED every second of my time living in New Orleans and Houston is quite the understatement, so in all honesty, the reason I live in WV is pure and simple.....my two daughters are still here, oh yes, my teaching job as well!!! WV is a pretty state what with the mountains and all, but any state in the south could easily hold my heart.

I grew up in Iowa and came to Ohio for a job. When my aorta decided to dissect, it was nice to be close to the Cleveland Clinic. I think I'll stick around a bit, at least until I get my youngest off to College.

Hmmm... guess I live in Sunny Southern California because my mother, who was from Iowa, came out to visit my great-aunt when she (my mom) was 21. She met my dad, and the rest, as we can say, is history. I've never had a great desire to move, though renting our apartment raises every year and houses in my area are just WAY too expensive. (We're talking in the 700,000s to millions).

I work where I do because my school was the first to offer me a job right out of student teaching. Although I hate the incessant campus politics (I swear, the teachers are worse than the students when it comes to cliquiness--is that even a word?), I quickly came to realize that my job is to teach, not get caught up in drama. I get paid fairly well, I have a great principal and great "teacher friends" (I chaperoned the Sadie Hawkins Dance a couple weeks ago with my best friend, and we took a picture together like the kids do--so cute!), and the kids are great. People think I'm crazy for teaching high school, but I love it. I did chew out two classes that were disrespectful to the sub when I was out sick earlier this week, but that's few and far between.

Oh, yes, and I guess I live where I do because my cardio's office is a block away from my apartment complex! How lucky am I? Actually, that thought never crossed my mind when my hubster and I were looking for a place. We just moved to the nicest and cheapest apt we could find at the time.
