Anyone else gone through a house move in same year they had OHS? We are moving out to the mountains of western Virginia, and I cherish the thought of being out there in God's Country. But all the packing and organizing and sorting through years of accumulated "stuff" is something else!

I guess if I survive all this, my rehab will have been successful. Coincidentally, tomorrow is the last of my 36 cardiac rehab sessions. Will take some flowers to my sweet nurses/angels.

Would be reassuring to hear others may have gone through this. :D

Hi Rob

We haven't had your "FUN," but are looking to move to VA next year. Tyce retires next June as do I from my part-time job in jail. Can't wait!!! Am already starting to sell off things we won't be using again.....

We're heading to the middle penninsula, though, about 2 hours SE of Fredericksburg.

If you only need reassurance, then yes, I've gone through the same thing. However, if you want the truth, then no, I haven't! :D :D

I'm sure you will do just fine Rob. Those cardiac rehab sessions are intended to help valvers who find themselves in your present situation.

By the way, I've just finished Shelby Foote's Civil War (volume 1) and alot of the action takes place in Western Virginia. Would you care to share the exact location? I've still got to wade through volumes 2 and 3, so I might recognize the place! ;) ;)
All the best,
Mary

Well, I haven't had heart surgery, buty I did move in January while I was very very pregnant. It was an experience to say the least. I were moving out of a two story house so the constant trips up and down the stairs really wore me out. Jeff kept telling me not to lift or carry things but since we were doing the moving ourselves I didn't listen to him.

Just remember not to push yourself too far. Take lots of breaks!!

Good luck!!

Michelle

I know Betty (bvdr) moved within a couple of weeks of her surgery (can't remember whether it was before or after). I am sure you will hear from her.

I moved about 10 months after my last surgery and that was soon enough. Still not quite as difficult as moving 2 households and 2 cats from California to Ohio (without using a moving company). YIKES!!!!

I do not envy you other than it sounds like you will be in a great place after the move (at least geographically). Hopefully your physical stamina will be there as well.

Best of luck.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks for the moral support, friends!

Evelyn, you all are moving to another lovely area of Virginia. Between the mountains and the water, it's pretty much a tossup. Hope your retirement is very enjoyable.

Mary, we'll be in the Roanoke Valley. Guess that's as specific as I will get for now in a public post. It's beautiful out there, and yes a lot of history too. Oh and thanks for that "reassurance." :D

Michelle, "very pregnant" is something I've never been (not even a "little") :D
But I think toting around heavy boxes of books and stuff while worrying about heart restrictions may be a bit similar to doing so while pregnant -- at least in terms of worry. I will try to be careful and sensible -- since the OHS my wife gets after me if I do so much as change a light bulb (but those things don't get done unless I do them). But cardiac rehab has had me working in a weight room so as Mary said, I have had some prep for reasonable exertion.

Gina, your move sounds really taxing; we're using a mover. But what gets me is moving with two cats -- YIKES, indeed! I have just Sadie, our yellow lab/golden retriever, who is getting sadder and sadder as more stuff gets packed. Sadie hates change (I guess she is a conservative :p but what she doesn't know is that when she becomes a mountain dog she will have a whole acre on which to chase squirrels and play ball and such. (JUst hope no bear or bobcat comes a-calling

Thanks, Pam. And on our visits there, one thing we've really noticed and liked is how friendly most people are. They say hello to you, they wave to you from their porches, that sort of thing. I know human nature is such that not all are friendly, but it does seem to be a neighborly sort of area.

I like that little airport, too. From DC, have flown in and out of there a few times. It's not an airport you're going to get lost in, or weary walking miles between gates. :D

I LOVE the mountains of WV. We lived in Baltimore for 5 yrs and my girls and I would take day trips to Antietam and then go where the civil war started (John Brown, etc) and spend all day just looking. We stepped where the 3 states come together and the two rivers meet (Shenandoah and the Potomac). I am sure you will have a wonderful life there.

I think Creed2..member, lives in that area. You may want to PM her and see how close yall will be..Bonnie

YUP  we moved one week before Hanks surgery. In the beginning of the day he passed out while trying to take apart his desk. It actually turned out to be the easiest move we ever had. We spent the day in the ER getting him checked out, and a bunch of men from our church completely moved our junk.

Gina is right. I did move just weeks before my VR. We downsized to about half the square footage. I really like being self-sufficient but at that time I was not and I found myself in the position of having to accept help from family and friends. I actually cherish all these people for their cheerful assistance. I think we are closer for the whole experience. I could not have done it without them.

I hope all goes well for you and hope you enjoy your new home as much as I do mine. Be willing to accept help if you need it as it may be a blessing to everyone involved.

New Habitat

New Habitat

Finally finished our move to the mountains late last week. Felt like ran a 26.2 mile marathon every day of the week. Am exhausted and haven't been paying much attention to blood sugar, pill schedules, etc, etc. Have to find a whole new set of doctors now, which is another adventure.

Now we'll be unloading boxes for a year. But every time I felt like whining I thought of those poor folks on the Gulf Court and the horrendous devastation and suffering they have had. By contrast, I have been twice blessed this year -- with a successful surgery and a successful move. Now that I can catch my breath, I'll find some way to help the Gulf Coast relief efforts as so many already have,.

Bob,

Good news and congrats on your new home. I hope it is all (and more) you expect and hope for. Enjoy.

Paint the boxes and stack them against the walls. Just tell people they are disposable furniture. :D :D :D Been working for me for over a year now.

Hi Gran. I did check in with Creed at your suggestion. She lives north of here quite a ways in Shenandoah Valley but had some good advice. I am enjoying just breathing in this mountain air right now. Sadie and I are going to enjoy some great hikes out near the Blue Ridge Parkway. I love the Fall too -- my favorite season.

Thanks Mary and geebee -- LOL, do you think I could call a jumble of brightly colored moving boxes some sort of modern art? :D :D :D

Cute. I got to work on Wednesday after all the rain we had last Tuesday and there were buckets, pails and cardboard boxes in the middle of the lobby. These were stacked underneath a destroyed ceiling tile that had been soaked from a roof leak. I told the receptionist I loved her new modern art sculpture.

Rob, we just sold our house and are moving in a couple of weeks into a tiny two bedroom apartment. We are so used to living in a 3 bedroom house with a bonus room that it will be a challange. THen in the middle of december, we are moving to Everett, WA(accross the puget sound and north of Seattle). Thankfully the Navy(my husband is in the navy)packs, moves and unloads when we get to Everett, but we're on our own for this next move. We're also going to live in military family housing(now known as PPV housing), so we're going to be staying put for quite a while when we get to everett!
