Assuming no complications, what are the usual medications given post-operatively during the first couple of weeks after aortic valve replacement with tissue valve ?

I have no idea what meds they gave me - all I remember is that I had a two wrist bands - one for each wrist - I gave my left wrist to the tech so they could scan it and take my vitals - when I saw a nurse I gave them my right wrist so they could scan it and give me my meds...... whatever they were I don't know...probably mostly for pain.
Sorry that's not much help to you - I'd suggest asking your doctor to find out what their procedures are.
I do remember that I got insulin shots (because that went into my stomach - not through some IV line) - the insulin was to counteract the high blood sugar I temporary developed after surgery.

You will get a variety of things depending upon your status. It will include stool softeners and pain medication. The only thing that suprised me was insulin. Most people go a little diabetic and keeping your sugar closely regulated helps in recovery.

Are you asking about in the hospital or once home? Everyone is different of course, but Justin was usually just on pain meds and sometimes some stool softner as long as he needed the pain meds. then because of getting a tissue valve depending on the docs or hospitals maybe aspirin or coumadin for the first 3 months. Altho I don't think the 3 months of coum for tissue is as common as it was a couple years ago. Hope that helps some

I want to remember the stool softner and also an Iron pill. I was told the softner was needed as the iron would stop you up. Also, put on a beta blocker for a few months. Was told it would slow the heart down a bit and help it to heal. Had pain pills, but really did not need them after a few days back at home. I also got some xanak that I took in the evening that helped me fall asleep. It is anti anxiety pill. Oh and the blood thinner warifin.

They had me on potassium for a short time, probably due to the short-term lasix to remove excess water. I was so happy to throw out those rocks after I got home!

Most OHS patients are given diuretics post op to get rid of the water accumlation we get during the surgery. My second OHS, I think I gained 15 pounds of water during the surgery but it came off very fast.

Yeah Jkm7 I did something similar - they must have had hoses attached to us filling us with fluid! I went in to my second op a fit 59kg and came out without a waist at 68kg. That's almost 20 pounds of water!

I was a basket case in class IV heart failure before my first surgery so was on lots of things before and after surgery until after 1 year all I was taking only perindopril and 100mg of aspirin.
With me second surgery the only thing I gained was Metoprolol for the first 3 months while the heart recovered from surgery and then this was discontinued as my normal HR is around 60.
With my second surgery I found it a great diet as I lost 4KG in my 5 days in hospital, I have never been able to diet almost a 1KG a day on the outside.

There will be lots of meds. I took all of the following (possibly more, not sure what all I took while in the hospital):
pain meds - ibuprofen was enough once I was home,
insulin - for stress induced hyperglycemia from the surgery,
diuretic - to treat fluid build up in the lungs/chest,
laxative,
proton pump inhibitor - for acid reflux (not sure why but my Dr. routinely Rx's this for the month following surgery),
iron - for anemia (low hemoglobin) as a result of the surgery
Beta blocker - to slow down heart rate (which is usually higher after surgery)

After my surgery I was given Dilaudid for pain, Lasix (as I had pericarditis and they needed it drained, the lasix was only but so effective for the fluid buildup), Colace (stool softener so you don't strain), Coumadin and Metoprolol, and they also had me on Amiodarone (heart rhythm medication)
Might not be typical for every patient recovering, as you stated, tissue valve. Mine's mechanical and can very well be different. That's just what I was given.

Whilst in ICU I was on 3 different types of antibiotics via the IV in my neck, panadol & tramadol for pain, aspirin for blood thinning (which I'm still on now) plus nexium for reflux caused by the aspirin (I'm also still on this), stool softener once to get things going in hospital, 3 heparin injections a day whilst in hospital too. I had a PV replaced, but like you, with a tissue valve. I think that's it, well, that's all I recall heh!
