What is the "true benefit" of a beta-blocker?

I was put on 25mg Atenolol (beta blocker) and 40mg Lisinopril (ace inhibitor) 5 years ago by my PCP for hi-blood pressure. He wanted to use some other "newer" med but my wife, an RN, was with me and she suggested the ones above since they had been on the market a long time and were "cheap":tongue2:. They seem to do the trick and I have never noticed any unusual physical downside except that I can sleep longer and nap easier:wink2:.....but I am 74+ years old and have earned that right:angel:
