These parents don't have to worry about anyone messing with their baby!

Ahhhh...what a CUTE pic :). And, yes, I'd agree ... those parents don't have anything to worry about in terms of someone or something messing with their baby ;).

BTW, Pam, quick Q for you ... if I simply quit my job, are they, by law, required to offer me COBRA ... whether I quit or if they let me go?

I can answer that one.. been down that road more than once myself.. cobra is offered no matter what.. simply because you're the one paying for it.. you pay your company the total monthly premium to keep your coverage for up to 18 months. I believe you have 30-60 days after "termination" to set it up.. it goes retro though, so you would pay for previous month as well.. with our issues, I don't do anything without insurance.. even if that means paying thru the nose for it.. (cobra)

hope that helps

Chris

Yes, if your company offers Cobra coverage, it's available to you, no matter what the reason is of your leaving. Because you pay 100% of the premium, plus up to a 2% administrative fee.

See if you can find out what your company's Cobra rates are - this is often the deciding factor of someone up and quitting. The sticker shock!

It took me so long to figure out where I had seen this type of dog and then I remembered! It's Hagrid's dog, Fang, from the "Harry Potter" movies!

Everyone have a safe holiday weekend and BBQ something for me - I'll be working all weekend setting up a new office!

I do not know if this is in every state or just Ohio but for smaller companies (under 25 employees) Cobra is not an option. There is a state offered "Cobra" but it is only if you are fired or laid off not available if you quit. So, if you work for a small company, do some further checking in your state before you quit. I am never going to be able to leave the company I work for unless I go to work for a big company that guarantees coverage from day one. I did not find out this information until I took the job.

Gina,

Thanks for that reminder about small companies ... luckily, I work for a "big" company, so I know they offer COBRA ... just didn't know if they could refuse to offer it to me if I just quit.

Pam,

Is there a "good" way to find out about the cost of COBRA ... without tipping them off as to why I'm inquiring?

Chris,

I dare not try to do anything either without insurance ... that's why I was asking ;).

*sighs*

I just HAVE to get out of this job ... someway, somehow ... and if quitting is the only way to having time to find a new job ... well, I may have to take that plunge.......and that is a bit scary, too :(.

And, Pam ... sorry this post got a bit "off topic" ... didn't mean for it to do that.....

Why don't you call the insurance company and ask what your plan would cost if you had to pay cobra. I think ours was 700 a month last year when don was out of work for a few months (which of course was when Justin needed heart surgery, so thank god for Cobra)
BTW Cort,I was thinking of you alot last weekend we went to OC Md for a few days and it was 'crusin weekend" there were tons of cars
Ijust googled cobra and this looks pretty helpful http://www.cobrainsurance.net/COBRA_Health_Insurance/COBRA_Insurance_Questions.htm

Ah...someone was thinking of me ;). He he he. Yep....several of my friends were there and some of 'em were even showing off their cars, too! I need to get there for that cruise some year ... tho, not sure when....

And, thanks for that COBRA link ... very informative!

I'll try calling the insurance company Tuesday....

Cort - did you call your ins. company? Remember to ask if the rate they quote you includes the administrative fee.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think most states have a provision that if a company is smaller than X number of employees, then they don't have to offer Cobra.

My company (and I truly know that the grass is greener now that I'm here!), no matter what size they've been throughout the years, has always offered Cobra. They've been down to 10 employees after 9/11 but are now up to 60+ and at no time was Cobra not offered. Same thing with FMLA - if you have under 50 employees, you don't have to honor it - but we've always honored it.

Sadly, no, not yet ... been too busy ... and just "not up to it", if that makes any sense.... Thanks for the tip :).

*sighs*

I can't take much more of this......
