well went to cardio on friday and he wants me in to have my inr checked again this morning and he said that if it still down that he wants me on heparin shots after today. so here's hoping my inr is back in range as i do not want to have to give myself needles. heck i've already seen enough of those.

That's sort of like saying:

"Gee, I don't like Needles,
I think I'll just take my chances that
I don't form any clots or get a Stroke
since needles are so 'uncomfortable'..."

well i was at 1.7 yesterday and and in the hospital they tok me off heparin shots at 1.6 so the doc never put me on them since it is going up. Al i never said i wouldn't give myself the shots all i said is if i could get away with not having to do it this time it would be preferred.

Your INR is only snail-crawling up. With a mitral valve, I am nervous when my INR is at 2.5, which is in range, but it's floor-level. Yours is less than that.

One aortic valver here -- denobobeno -- had a stroke about 2 weeks post-op. She went to her doctor for a recheck, I think; she was given aspirin (81mg, I tihnk) and a shot of Lovenox. She had her stroke about 2 hours later, I think, en route home. Not sure what the snafu was with her anticoagulation management, but she now has her own INR tester.

I dislike needles. But if I ever need to use Lovenox, I will. (My dad has osteoporosis very bad and his endorcinologist has RXed 2 shots daily, rather than taking Fosamax, Actonel or Boniva. He will have to give himself shots for the rest of his life. He's waiting on hearing how much insurance will cover.)

Some people just have phobias about needles..... My husband's phobia is needles.
Hubby will grab a pitbull dog by the neck, but don't show him a needle.:D

If you wanna watch me sweat, just show me an angiocath (I.V.) specifically 16 ga or larger that they want to put into ME!

For a heart cath, yes. I'm talking your run of the mill IV needle.

i can handle small needles if i don't watch them put them in. anything bigger forget about it. they did have to give me something to relax before they did my heart cath also. i couldn't see them put the needle in even though i could feel it. i just know that i would have a hard time giving myself a shot and i think if it ever comes down to me needing to that i may have to get the hubby to do it so i don't have to watch it go in. that is my biggest problem. i get the inr checked again next monday so i have my fingers crossed for a better result. they had a real hard time even on heparin in the hospital getting me to the therapeutic stage and had to keep upping the dose just to get me there. but finally as soon as i hit 1.6 the next day it went up real quick. from 1.6 to 2.6 in the one day.

There is less pain involved in those shots then pricking your finger for the INR test. I kid you not.

well maybe i will be able to handle doing it myself when it arises. will just have to wait and see and if it doesn't bother me than i don't have to bother the hubby. cause going to get my inr checked doesn't really bother me much anymore. and sometimes i watch and other times i can't. figure that one out. lol

My wife wouldn't do mine. She can't handle that sort of thing, so I had to do it myself. Of course, my son would have loved to do it. Sadistic little prick that he is. :D Honestly though, if you follow the instructions and don't hesistate when doing the jab, you won't feel it or if you do, it's a tiny sting.
