I had AVR in May this year. After watching TV program or movie with lots of suspense that gets my adrenalin high I don?t feel too good even day after (an episode of 24 is a good example).
Has anyone else noticed this effect?

Not from TV, but just let me get pumped around this house over something and it saps all the energy out of me for a couple days.

I believe anything that causes stress saps your strength. Last week at the finish of the court proceeding, I was stiff as a board through the several times we were in attendance - and found the last day particularly awful. It took days to get rested and I am still working on it. I have trouble watching some of the TV shows about awful crimes and will just get up and play games on the computer til it's over. Daughter has no trouble with them, but I do.

Alan,
I recognized that several years ago.
I don't watch any tv shows, movies, or read books that might cause me stress. Life is hard enough without my looking for "entertainment" that adds to it.

Alan:

Emphatically, YES!

My husband, if he gets stressed from almost anything, will feel badly for at least a day afterwards. September 11th was probably the first time I noticed it, as did he. This was pre surgery (which was 10/4, same year), but even now, if there is "bad news", he cannot watch it on TV, as it upsets him, and he will not feel well for a day or two afterwards. And heaven forbit, he actually gets upset with a person. Takes days and days.
You are not alone!

Absolutely! I love "24" and that usually doesn't stress me out, however as a native Chicagoan who recently relocated to SW Florida, I noticed my blood pressure was elevated watching my White Sox during the baseball playoffs. The close games really tired me out and that's two years post-op! I also noticed I had a hard time sleeping as my mind would not shut off.

I do however try to limit the amount of stressful media, whether it's TV, radio or movies. As someone already pointed out, life is stressful enough, I don't need to recreate it on my down time.

...plus I have "Wilma" in the back of my mind this week.

Allen - welcome to Florida - guess you're getting enough stress from Wilma to keep you for the next few yrs. Esp if you're in mid-SW fl. Son is in Sarasota and we have a few others there. I used to live in that area, too. I am hoping all there will be safe - and unstressed.

I got an email today that stated stressed is desserts spelled wrong way about. Let's all eat some sweets.

Now what does get me going is the mail and seeing Aultman Hospital Collections Department. Now that, nearly puts me in Afib everytime. :(
