I was placed on warfarin for short term ACT after both AVR surgeries. This because the incision join with the stitches on both the aorta and the heart can cause turbulent flow and trick the amino acids in your blood to signal the spleen to send clotting agents and build some potentially lethal globs.
I take Coumadin long term now because my blood tends to drop clots in my extremities. I can only try to eat and exercise properly in order to limit how frequently and where this will occur. Prior to my latest clot causing cellulitis, I was on 325 mg Enteric ASA. Now that I'm on ACT, I also keep my platelets in control with 81 mg Enteric ASA.
Take Heart,
Pamela
