I'm a firm believer in all the benefit walking provides us. I know for sure the fact I walk regularly made by second OHS very much easier on my.

Good for you.... sounds like you are doing great. Keep at it. :)

"But then I noticed something. I had been becoming increasingly depressed, a bit neurotic, and hypochondriacal as of late. After I rested a bit, I found that I had the most energy than I have had since the surgery. I feel more alert, and more interested in doing things. I am going to continue to walk outside as much as I can."

I agree with you Braveheart. Where I live, I have to contend with the wind alot so do have a treadmill to use when I can't stand up straight outside. However, walking outside seems to do something for the inner being that being inside cannot do. I vote for outdoor walking whenever possible.

I'm sure air conditioning is part of the problem. We never get acclimated.

AC is a big part of the problem. i've been having difficulty increasing my
running distance lately. temps here are in the mid-90's, humidity also
in the mid-90's. i'd start off fine, but would quickly lose steam. i've been
running the AC all day and night, not going out other than to run or to
the gym or to bicycle. so this morning cut the AC when i got up, went
running about 4pm, managed to increase distance by 3 miles. still felt
good at the end, but running gear thoroughly soaked, must have weighed
3 pounds. acclimatizing before exercising made a big difference.

so if you're living with constant AC, why not acclimatize yourself first
before your walks? sit outside in the shade for an hour or so before
the walk. and don't forget to carry your water bottle.

Density Altitude

Density Altitude

I thought about starting a new thread but this one might be a good place to add this.

Heat and humidity wipe me out. Blah :( .

Cooler weather makes a tremendous difference in my energy level  . Whether that has to do with my heart or not, I'm not completely certain. I've always been invigorated by cooler weather, but I've always had this heart problem also.

I don't climb hills well either. But my valve opening is pretty small.

Anyway though, I think the following is really interesting and hope you do too:

Another thing that can make a difference in how we feel is DENSITY ALTITUDE. You may be accustomed to your home altitude but the heat increases density altitude, so your body may feel that it is laboring in, sometimes, a much higher altitude, even 2000 to 3000 feet higher.

Recently we were at a high altitude but the density altitude was much higher because it was a very hot day and I suffered with angina.

So, heat can make a difference!
