Mark,

Great recovery! Very encuraging.

I just had my 6mo check and was put on an Ace-Inhibitor to help reduce the size of my left ventricle and hopefully eliminate some mitral valve leakage. I am encuaged to read that you showed no improvement for 6 months and then great inprovement in you chamber size. I have shown some, but not enough. Did you remain on a Beta-blocker or Ace-Inhibiotor for chamber dilation?

My Doctor told me to do as much as I want. It seemed clear from that comment that he did not think my exercise was inhibiting the chamber contraction. Further more the hypertrophy of the muscle has reduced, so the larger chamber is not needed to accomodate the muscle mass (as I understand it).

I was not on either beta-blockers or ace-inhibitors at any time.
My doctor is like yours - he tells me to do as much aerobic stuff as I can handle.

Great News Mark

Go the Half IM!!! ... and then who knows what?!?

Bill - you may have started a phenomenon (sp?) here and we'll soon have the medical fraternity signing up in droves to see how real people survive real operations and prove to be the exception to their myopic studies.

I must admit I used to dread going to the cardiologist - I am now itching to go for my 12 month anniversary check up to see the difference in heart size since operation and exercise.

My heart rate dropped from 100+ immediately post surgery and progressively came down to high 50's but has stabilised at around high 60's in last few months - maybe thats just function of me being a bit of a girls blouse in the colder / wetter winter months and not doing as much!!!

regards

Russell
