For most of my life, I have not been able to take over the counter cold remedies. Now that I had the AVR (which did not stop SVT) so I had an ablation 6/26/08. Since then.............no SVT. So does anyone else in this previous predicament use over the counter cold remedies? Like Nyquil? Or cold capsules?? Any advice?

Metroprolol is still being prescribed to me and it comes with the warning not to take it with cold meds.
I'm not as worried about my BP rising as I am concerned about any possible increase in my arrhythmias.

Thanks everybody. I will check w/the doctor. My blood pressure is not a problem. It is low. I sure don't want any rapid hearbeat again. So I will be safe.

I grew up having SVT for 18 years before I had my ablation. Occasionally, a Dr. would tell me not to take cold medicines. I assumed that it was due to being on a beta blocker...I have never had high blood pressure. I took them any way and still do. I have never had a problem with them. It wouldn't hurt for you to ask your Dr.

I have been told there is something in most over the counter cold medicine that will give you a rapid heart beat. I never wanted to risk it and don't now unless I find out it is ok.
