Hi All,
Sorry i haven't been on here much but it's been a rough year for me. All at the same time i got an infection in the bursars sack (sp) on my right elbow, my two artifical valves got infected also with that same infection and i "got a bleed" on my brain. It was very scarry and too close for comfort. Fortunatley i was not consious for most of this. I almost had to have my aortic artifical valve replaced but the infection miraculasy (sp) cleared with antibiotics. I had to have a craniotomy(sp) to relive the presure on my brain. But eventually i am back to almost normal. Anyway i have a question that maybe someone can help me with. Lately when i urinate it is almost brown. It has happend only a few times and when it hasn't everything looks normal. I feel fime. I just had my Pt time checked and everything was fine. Kinda bewildering. Like i said this has happend only like 3 times and only in the past 3 weeks. Anyway if anyone has any ideas i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks Jed

Are you, or were you on any medications, recently, which could have caused this.

Joe recently had infections, a brain bleed and a threat of endocarditis, very similar to what happened to you. He was in the hospital for 2 months. He was put on Vancomycin and also Rifampin (which was used because he could not take any penicillin things). One of the known side effects of Rifampin is brown urine.

Have they checked out your kidney function? Sometimes the dyes that are used with things like this to diagnose it can cause kidney problems. And that can cause dark colored urine.

And another thing to check out is liver function. Who knows what can happen when serious things like this occur, and the liver can get into distress. Dark urine is a symptom.

So these are some of the things that could cause the dark urine.

I also think eating beets can cause dark urine.

You should call your doc and have some tests just to make sure.

Clear liquid.....

Clear liquid.....

*Sorry to hear that youve been through so much...BUT...youve come through, so your obviously a 'tuffy'. I was also wondering if you were taking medication that could darken your urine. Also, if your not drinking enough 'clear' liquid, this can also make the urine darker in colour.!! Best of Luck 8)
