A friend e-mailed me about a German Shepherd that is awaiting valve surgery -- sounds like it's for stenosis -- somewhere in Ohio, I think Columbus, by OSU cardiologists.

Anyone hear about this???

Something isn't adding up about it, because the link at the TV station's website says continuing vet care will be $25 a month. My reaction is ONLY $25????

Wow. My little doggy is post two knee revisions, I'm down $4000 (She's our CHILD, we can't have any). This was the CHEAP route to fix her problem (at least the kindest cheap route). Hadn't heard of it though. Good luck! I know having my little baby here with me was worth every penny.

Many medical procedures were done on dogs before humans. Hip replacements are one that dogs got before us!

Ah, sweet baby. (With a sassy little animal print bed!)

Only $25? Good night shirt tail ... that certainly would be nice if OUR medical coverage/procedures were only that much per month.....

Aye.

Sure hope all turns out well for the dog, of course :).

Yep. If you've read about the history of OHS, you'll notice that many valve procedures were done on dogs first.

However, the media doesn't know all this. But the story is one of those heart-tugging ones. Animal stories are always big draws, whether in the paper or on the TV/radio.

Knee revision? Was this for patellar luxation?

My baby Kurli a cavalier king charles spaniel had his cruciate ligament replaced 13 days ago. It cost me $500AU.
He is doing really well and gets his stiches out tomorrow. He looks just like BAV Pts daughters doggy in his bed, a bald backside!!
I didnt even think twice of getting it done foir him.

She thinks she's human, I am convinced. She's our child, though, we'd have it no other way. What would we ever do without our doggies??

She tore the posterior cruciate ligament in one knee then less than 6 weeks later in the other. (Similar to the ACL injury common in football players)
At the second surgery, they had to go in the first op site to remove the metal plate that her body was rejecting as well (like <5% chance of that, go figure). She's not rejected the second plate though. They cut off the top of the tibia, shift it around to give it a flat surface to keep the femur from pushing the knee forward and re-injuring that ligament, and then plate it all back together. Now my poor dog has panick attacks, I swear, every time we go to a vet though. Shakes from head to toe, and sheds like you'd never believe. Cracks my husband up.

Had a cat number of years ago who HATED to go to the vet. The minute you walked into the clinic, she could sniff that it was a vet clinic and her haunches went up.
On the other hand ... I do have cats who purr at the vet clinic -- even when getting their temps taken.

Roxy has learned to hide her butt under the bench where I sit, like that'll stop 'em. They'll lift her bottom by the tail, she'll sit right back down, it's like pulling teeth to take a temp on her. She was never as bad as she is now after the surgery, especially when we go to that specific clinic...she starts shaking in the parking lot there. Poor thing.

When I worked at a vet, a gal brought in her chihuahua that had been playing with their other dog, a dobie, in their backyard. The dobie stepped on the little dogs leg. The leg was broken, and twisted. They paid $2600 for surgery by a vet orthopedic specialist. Yikes! But, she was good as new and so sweet!

Your poor little baby, my mum has a maltese with three legs and no teeth. He has panic attacks if you take him out of her house or yard, he is so funny, he shakes all over, pants heavily and generally objects untill you take him back into the house or yard.
I hope your baby is doing well now, my baby had his stiches out yesterday and is doing very well.

My baby is fine too. She just freaks out about vets now, she'll give herself a heart attack one day, poor thing. Let me know how your baby does!!! Send some post-op pics, those are so adorable.
