Grrrrrrrr....

I don't want to hear ANY talk about the possibility that "Fall" might be coming, let alone winter!!!!

Once upon a time I really didn't mind that much. While I hated the end of summer, the fall season around here (wine country with all kinds of wonderful smells of grapes from vineyards in the area near harvest) was always a special time and I've got lots of fond memories of the season.

However, fall brings winter and NOW, after struggling desperately to survive through three of them in a row, I hate winter and cold with a passion beyond most other things....

Ok, maybe that's a little much on the dramatic side, but I only had about three "good" days last winter, the rest sucked rocks and frankly, I'd rather do away with it all together.

Anybody know of any job openings for a newspaper photographer somewhere south and WARM all year round???? :D

Roll on summer, here in beautiful Australia, we are leaving our winter. Give me the heat. We have had a pretty mild winter only got to about 9 c (don't know your farenfeight!) in the day and not much worse at night. Our bushfire season has opened 2 months early as we are preparing for a bad summer, so whilst we too are collecting leaves, it is from our roof guttering to protect from fires! Ohhh how I long for nice hot days again sooooon. I will think of you whilst I am laying around the pool.
OK, I've just arrived in VIC from Kalgoorlie, and it's been b****y cold on both sides. Just before we left Kal we were getting temps between -2C to 3C (28-35F) overnight and 10-14C (50-60F) during the days. Let me tell you, it hasn't been any warmer here!! Perhaps we should have moved to Newcastle instead :D Mind you, I saw it was 27C (80F) up in Brisbane the other day, which is nice because I'm heading up that way in a fortnight.

By the way, I got your email the other day and haven't had a chance to get back to you just yet (..you know - the big move!..). I'll try and drop you a line in the next couple of days.

Cheers
Anna : )

I'm hoping it's only because of the unseasonably cool temperatures we've had around the great lakes this summer, but when I start seeing leaves falling this early, it's not a very good indicator of things to come. Cort believe me, I have no desire to participate in winter either. I need my tongue though, do I still have to bite it? :)

Yeah, I hear ya. I noticed quite a few leaves falling here the last couple days, too :(.

But, yes, you still have to bite it...but, you don't have to bite it hard....

PS...sorry I wasn't online last night. My best friend, Heather, is visiting from VA. She and her husband are moving to NC in 2 months and she wanted to make sure she saw some of her friends before she moved farther away....

I was talking to an old and experienced lifetime resident of this area of Michigan yesterday, and he pointed out that the leaves are falling early because we have had so much rainfall. That is, there has been too much rain, and that is causing the leaves to die early. I don't know if that is so or not, but it sounds better at the moment than an early fall.

Jim,

I've heard that a wet summer prolongs the leaves changing color and dropping. After a dry summer, the leaves supposedly turn brown and fall quickly. Maybe too much water has a reverse effect. We're due for another drenching later this week.

We have had a wet summer, too...and went outside to water (because we had 2 hot days) and the No see -ums (bugs) ate me alive.  Told Hubby, tomorrow. we are pulling all our dead annuals (too much rain)..getting rid of all plants around front porch that are not blooming. Bugs live in them..  Clean everything out.. Deer ate all the blooms off my daylillies and Hostas...Yard is a mess...Bonnie
