A TV reporter in Albany, NY contacted the Cardiac Athletes group on Facebook a few months ago looking to do a story on folks who had cardiac procedures and returned to fitness activities. She's the local health reporter and does things on every medical issue under the sun. I got in touch with her and was interviewed last December. She discovered we're a very rare breed and it took a long time to find anyone else, but eventually located a couple others. I don't know who they are or what they do, but I'll find out when the segment airs on Feb. 24. I'll post a link to the piece after it airs.

Jack - Please do post the link. I saw Lars' note on CA forum and email, but I didn't think I was sufficiently back to form to add my name to the list. My accomplishments pale compared to many of the Cardiac Athletes group.

Jack - That's a GREAT piece, for the guys they interviewed and for others who may not realize the importance of general fitness and health when the body undergoes trauma. I simply cannot imagine what would have become of me had I not been a runner/jogger for those 30+ years prior to valve replacement. Now, if I only could get my knees to shut up, I'd be back to your 1,000 miles/year. I, too, used to log 20+ miles a week, year in and year out. Now, with two painful knees, I have to be content with riding an exercise bike and speed walking on an inclined treadmill. All that aside, Jack, you are yet another true inspiration to the rest of us. May you enjoy it for many, many more years!

Thanks for posting the link, too.

When you think about it, logging 1000 miles is not a big deal and it's an average. It's less than 3/day, 19/week. Of course there are years when I do only 600 and years when I do 1200. My highest was about 1500. What I'm more proud of was the 35 years of consistency and if you look at the annual totals, you'd be hard pressed to tell which of those was the AVR year.

I was right up there with you until my knees threatened to quit on me. I'll try to maintain the mileage, but it will have to be via an alternate exercise. Keep on truckin'!
