good luck and best wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery will look out for you in the post surgery forum

Thinking of you tthompson and sending you my very best wishes and positive vibes for a successful surgery. You know that you are at an excellent facility and will receive the best of care. I will be looking out for an update. Hopefully someone will be able to post with an update.

I just got back from meeting with the surgeon. It's been a whirlwind the last 2 days, as I've had just about every diagonstic test done. CT scan yesterday, another echo this morning followed by a chest X ray, blood test, and cardiogram.

I'm going to have a Bentall Proceedure in which a St. Jude valve will be used. They will be using the St. Jude because it is the only one that comes in one piece ( the valve and the ascending aorta replacement part).

The surgeon talked a lot about risks, which I'd guess he has to do to CYA and I signed the waiver. He does this all the time, and he did say he couldn't recall the last time he lost someone who had this done on an "elective" basis.

Mom arives later today from Southern Ontario, and tomorrow at 1:00 is the pre-op.

Proceedure begins at 8:00 AM EST on Friday unless I get bumped for an emergency. He told me surgery would take about 5-7 hours.

If I don't get this done, my aorta is going to burst. Maybe tomorrow, the next day, or next week, but within 2-3 years. Prognosis is very bad if that happens.

He offered to delay the surgery if I needed time to "think about it", but I don't. I'll take my odds and live or die with it. There is really no choice.

Look forward to hearing a good update from you or one of your relatives. :)

My thoughts are with you. I'm on the path behind you, St. Jude with a aortic graph. Just had my pre-op CT Scan this morning, though no firm surgery date.

I'll be sending good thoughts your way for a smooth surgery and recovery.

Will be thinking of you on Friday and sending positive thoughts your way. It sounds like all your ducks are lined up. You've gone this far...why would you want to wait...funny my surgeon said the same thing...asked if I needed time to think about it. Not...

Hope someone can post for you!!
As I said, you will be in good hands. :)
All the very best,

Wishing you all the best for a successful surgery and a quick, uneventful recovery! You will do great:). Looking forward to reading your first post when you are up to it. My thoughts and prayers will be with you on Friday.

Sorry folks, but I've been bumped. During the meeting this afternoon with the anethstisist (sp?) the corrdinator came in and told me they had to move me back a week. Too many emergency cases came in today. Very frustrating, and I hope it doesn't happen again.

So sorry to hear that. It is very frustrating and very hard on the nerves esp. when plans have been made around work and family. I know that when my date had to be changed (and I was given 2 weeks notice) I was very disappointed as I had already mentally prepared and 'wrapped my head around the date'. Hope you get a new date soon. Keep us posted.
Looks like you will joining the October group.

Sorry about the wait. Waiting is the worst part. After taking my time deciding on the procedure, surgeon and hospital......my first date was canceled due to a scheduling error. I had a date for two weeks later....I developed bronchitis...another 30 day wait.
Praying for peace as you wait. Be sure to update us on the next scheduled date.
