Great Report!

Great Report!

Danny, Thanks for sharing your little report! I know how much I value our paid city firefighters! They saved my house once, and have been here three times for medical emergencies! I am lucky to live only blocks from the firehouse, but their response time has been amazing! Keep up the good work taking care of yourself, and best of luck in your wonderful service to your community! PS: Don't you owe us some pics of the new house? Or did I miss them? I have the right person don't I? I was hoping to see the creek... Brian:D

Danny, I am very proud of you. I have seen what our volunteers do. It is such a grand thing that you all give of your lives for the communities where it's so rural. Thank you for protecting us. Congratulations on one more hurdle made.......

Brian,

Not me. I moved here into this over 100 year old house in 93 after 26 years in the Air Force. I told everyone the next move I make will be feet first out the back door. Came a little too close for comfort last year!!!!!  :D :D

I wish I had a creek on my property so I could make a fish pond or lake.:D :D Then it would be perfect.

May God Bless,

Danny

You're a brave survivor!

You're a brave survivor!

Danny, I just wanted to touch base with you before next weeks MVReplacement. I remember you releiving some worry I had about Dr. Pacifico. I noticed that you have been under Drs. Cherry and McGiffin at UAB. I can't honestly say that Dr. Pacifico has the best of bed-side manners, but does that really matter? I am due for MV Replacement on Jan. 5. My decision to return to Pacifico was based on the fact that he has been in my chest and will be most familiar with the work that has been done since he did the repair. Most of my family are very intimidated by him and don't feel welcomed to discuss with him or talk to him about concerns. I understood from previos posts that you were very pleased with McGiffin. Dr. Pacifico is retiring this next July and I hear that Dr. Kirkland is moving up to head the department. Anyway, Pacifico was cordial to me and answered all of my questions, but at the same time made me feel as though he was on a time schedule and for me to ask specific non-repetitive questions. I feel like I'm too close to turn back now. If I wait and see another surgeon, I will most likely "chicken-out". What are your opinions/observations/any enlightening truths you'd like to share? The close I get to Jan 5, the more nervous, anxious, emotional, I become. Just getting these thoughts off my shoulders really helps and knowing that there is someone listening is a real boost also. Thanks for being there for me to let off some steam. And best of luck with your passion for fighting fires. We are very blessed that some heroic firefighters put their lives on the line for us every day and forever grateful for volunteers like you. God bless!!

Gail,

Funny you should bring up this question. As I said in other posts, Dr McGiffin was the ONLY surgeon choice for my Cardio Dr Schwindt. When he said Dr. McGiffin was the surgeon he would send his family to if facing what I was facing, that was enough for me.

I had talked and typed to one of our members who had used Dr. Pacifico. She spoke very highly of his skills as a surgeon but also pointed out the ?lack of bedside manner?. She said for her this was actually a blessing because she really didn?t want to know TOO much, just wanted things fixed right. He did the job.

However, a recent experience has reinforced the skills of Dr. Pacifico. In another post I mentioned a friend of ours (Ray) who was being forced to ?surgeon shop? due to his poor condition. Surgeons (including the high risk surgeon) in Columbus refused to take him because of his complications. Dr. Pacifico at UAB agreed to take him on. He was very honest with him and the family. He said that he stood a less than 50 percent chance of coming through the surgery and he voiced his concerns about the damage he might find. He also said that Ray would not be a candidate for heart replacement surgery due to his other complications. After Ray and his family said go ahead, Dr. Pacifico successfully performed 5 by-passes on him. Fortunately he did not require valve replacement. It is still touch and go for Ray but Dr. Pacifico was extremely pleased with the outcome. A recent post exam showed Ray had gone from less than 20 percent EF to over 35 percent. He still has a long road ahead of him. Ray?s wife really didn?t want to know any more information about Ray?s condition so they were pleased with Dr. Pacifico.

My opinion, stay with who YOU are comfortable with. I believe it does make a difference. I really don?t think you could be in better hands. The family might not like the fact that he doesn?t spend time with them but remember you are the one he is there for. At least YOU know where Dr. Pacifico?s hands HAVE BEEN. :D Sorry, couldn?t resist.:D :D

Good luck on your re-surgery. Prayers and good thoughts are coming your way.

May God Bless,

Danny

Hi Danny,

I just read your post about participating in the fire drill. That is great news. I thought I accomplished a milestone but man, you came over a huge mountain :). Why to go!

Yesterday, we just returned from a camping trip to Three Rivers State Park about 40 miles west of Tallahassee, FL. We hiked a trail that was really too long for our 6 year old twins. The trail was about 2 miles. At one point, both twins become very tired. I carried Greg (who weights about 45 lbs) about 100 yards up a hill (for the benefit of others, yes, we do have hills in FL :).
I was tired but still rather proud of myself. It finally hit me that I now know what people mean when they said that they never knew how bad they really felt until after the surgery. There is no way I could have done it before the surgery.

I can't blame it on Haley; it's the posting harassment I receive from ole Danny Boy! :p :p :p Do you think we should sic Katie on him?:p :p :p

Karl,

Ain't life great.:D :D I'll catch myself doing something that I would not have been able to do this time last year and it is just amazing. I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to take what I've been given for granted. I guess its good in some ways but bad in others. I sometimes have to remind myself of this new lease on life I've been blessed with. Lets just keep KEEPING ON!!!!!

Janet,

What's it to you, sweetie??????????:D :D :D :D Mary can come up with some STRANGE pictures, can't she????? Makes you wonder!!!!!!!!! But thanks for the hugs.:D

Mary,

NO, NO, NO, NO=======Not Katie!!!!!!!!!  :D :D I guess I did sorta adopt her as another Grandchild but we have to DRAW THE LINE somewhere.:D :D

I just visited with two of our three grandkids over the holidays and its sure nice to be able to HAND THEM BACK. From Janet's postings Katie sounds like a handful. Praise the LORD.

May God Bless,

Danny

Mary,

Well, I did some looking at old posts, and here's the latest STRANGE picture I found (sorry Karl to drag you into this!:p :p )

Congratulations! I love our volunteers here. They've helped pick Joe's sorry body up off the floor, lawn, ice, whatever he happened to fall on, so many times, I can hardly remember how many. The local EMTs also are fantastic! They all came right away each time I dialed 911. It was a real blessing. By the way, last time, the National guard which is right around the bend from us, sent their EMTs. They were great.

So thanks so much for what you do.
