Good luck Betty.

Viactiv has enough vitamin K to affect the INR. If you take one daily stick with it and never run out. Intermittent use will cause fluctuating INRs.

Good luck on your epidural. I was in the same position for my carpal tunnel surgery in October. Was taken off the coumadin and had to get tested daily until the inr was at a certain point and then I was admitted and heparin started. Went in the night before the surgery and had to stay until inr was regulated which was 3 more days. I did really feel better doing it this way then going off the coumadin completely. When my cardiac surgeon did the hernia surgery, he just had me quit taking it 4 days before surgery and double up the dosage after surgery and then get tested in a few days. Took a while to get regulated. The cardiologist regulated the heparin not the ortho doc. Nothing is simple when you are on coumadin as far as medical procedures. It is really ironic that you are having problems with a shoulder. I just had a cortisone shot in mine to see if this would help. It seems to but this is just a temporary fix for what is actually wrong. I have had enough surgeries for a long time. Didn't mean to go on about this. Always think positive, ;)

I just wanted to let you know that everything went fine today. I just restarted my warfarin but no Lovenox allowed until this time tomorrow.

My INR was 0.9....

They didn't have a fingerstick unit and as usual I'm a hard stick. I should have brought my ProTime unit. The doctor said they wanted to get one a couple of years ago but they couldn't come to a consensus with the QA department about the details. He was very interested in home testing and hadn't run into any else doing it.

I will not do this again though without being on heparin and having it paused only the minimum amout of time possible. I just don't like feeling so vulnerable and knowing the risk I am taking could have been reduced.

Thanks for all your messages everyone. You all mean a lot to me.

Betty,

I am praying real hard for you and will continue until I hear you are back above 2.5 at least.

Please take care.

Me too Betty! Glad to hear things went well. I hope this gives you some relief.

Well done

Well done

That's great news. Hopefully your shoulder is doing great too.

Hope You Got Some Relief!

Hope You Got Some Relief!

I am very relieved to know you are through it! Did the procedure help with your discomfort? Brian

Betty,
Has the epidural lessened the burning sensation you have been experiencing?
I sure hope it has.
Mary

Hey Betty,
I am glad to hear that everything went well for you. Get that INR back up there:)
Take Care

Hi, and thanks for all the replies. The cervical epidural is helping and the burning in my shoulder and arm is way less. I'm not to really evaluate the effectiveness for another day and a half but I slept really well last night which has been a rarity lately. Yesterday my INR was 0.9 and today I'm at 1.6 which means I'm heading in the right direction again...yeah!
