Bob, we wish you a successful operation and easy recovery- one day in and out is better than AVR, but you will be in our thoughts and prayers. You need to post some "after" pictures! Godspeed!

True Story...

True Story...

Wishing you all the best Bob. I hope you have better luck than I did.. Please read on......

I had Sinus surgery in 1988 but the ENT surgeon took too much cartilage out of my nose and it made my nose collapse. I could feel the tip of my nose touching my upper lip. The ENT tried to fix it by harvesting cartilage from a donors bank but it was rejected by my body. After that I needed approval from the insurance company to consult with a Plastic Surgeon to fix the ENT's screw-up and that took forever because they claimed this was elective surgery and was not needed. I fought this tooth and nail and finally they gave in and I went in for Rhinoplasty, but the plastic surgeon did a crappy job. He took cartilage from my rib for support in the nose so that was good. The problem was that the nose became a bit crooked since the collapse and in order to fix it needed to be broken. Because it was an insurance job they did the minimum and I've been stuck with a bit of a crooked nose. I have not spend my own $$$ to fix it, and since I am on Coumadin now I have been very hesitant to go in and have a redo. I think I'll live with a less than perfect nose.

Well, Bob. It will be interesting to hear you espouse on the difference in surgeries. Somehow, I think this sinus one might be a bit more painful, but I'm sure you've researched the best pain meds!

How did you get this far without an MRI? Or did they talk you into one (I remember your not being terribly fond of the tunnel).

Wishing you great success, great pain meds and an easy recovery.

I'll be thinking of you. Marguerite

Hi Bob

Wishing you the very best with your sinus surgery. I had sinus surgery done about 8 years ago and it was the best thing I've ever done!!! No pain, by the way!!

If you have any questions, please pm me.

We've lots of folks having OHS. This is hardly surgery in relation to this site. But thank you all anyway. :) It's a very thoughtful and appreciated gesture.

JKM7 and Bammamatt, you'll be in my thoughts as they take me in. I know what it's like to be wheeled in for OHS, and I'm glad to be just dabbling this time.

Thanks, Christina, for the cheery thoughts about sinus surgery. I'll actually be delighted if I just don't come out of it with one huge nostril...

I had an MRI before my OHS. It actually wasn't bad at all, because they had a very strong airflow inside that kept me from feeling trapped. They did a CAT scan for the sinus issues, so it was tubeless.

I checked with the surgeon's office several times, and they said I didn't need to go through all sorts of pretests, for which I'm grateful. They'll do every test they can foist on you just for CYA, given the opportunity.

I've filled out a ton of forms, most duplications of data.

Now we'll see tomorrow if they knew what they were talking about. I can just see someone at SurgiCare waving a red flag and saying, "Oh, you've got to have a blah, blah paper filled out by a so-and-so before you can go to this surgery." And then being told to go in shame. And me, having left my Papers of Manumission at home...

Then I'll just have to write another chapter of the saga...

Best wishes,

Bob,
You sure have a great sense of humor, I hope all goes well for you.
Maybe it's not heart surgery but it is still surgery.
