OK jumping in here. Had ticks and Lymes(before OHS) my son had Lymes. Both of us tx with antibiotics. No problems. Now we have a dog.( For a whole three weeks) He is a rotweiller/Great Dane mix and a rescue dog and we have pulled two ticks off despite front line tx. Hey Angela is that a Rotty in your photo?

Last July I had a birthday party for myself (though my birthday's in April) down at my Mother's in Westport MA. USA. I had a great water gun fight with some of the nephews. About a week later I noticed a "bullseye rash" on my left bicept. The doc took one look and put me on antibiotics. My yougest nephew was diagnosed the same day! We'd both picked the buggers up running around the yard. Thankfully we were both treated promptly. Lyme and Babesia are common illnesses in Southeastern Mass. and can be very serious. If you are in tick country try to be vigilant! Brian

Killing Ticks

Killing Ticks

I use one of two methods to Kill Ticks:

1 - Squish them. This requires hard surfaces and a fair amount of pressure, especially if they are not yet engorged.

2 - Drown them. This requires that they be submerged for at least 20 minutes. Just throwing them in water will NOT work as they are light enough to stay on the surface due to surface tension.

Several years ago my dogs were always covered with Ticks and picking them off was a daily chore. Thankfully that problem has almost vanished.
