At this point I think it fitting that I bid a fond adieu to The Waiting Room, the virtual room where many of us await our own turns at valve surgery. I will be off to the hospital in the morning, so from then on I will only be a visitor -- no longer a resident in The Waiting Room.

I've given it a final once over. The hardwood floors gleam, the area rugs are pristine. All of the furniture is arranged perfectly. The big screen home theater system is in perfect shape, the remote just where it should be kept. There are plenty of snacks and beverages for all, for all are welcome here.

All of the magazine subscriptions are current - no oldies here.

The fireplace is ready and waiting to keep everyone warm, eliciting some heartfelt personal chats.

The Waiting Room has, for me, been a truly wondrous place, and I thank everyone who comes to visit.

I'll turn out the lights on my way out. . . (sniff)

Steve, I wish you the best in the coming days...you'll be fine. I hope you are already experiencing the peace that several of us found leading up to surgery. Please have someone let us know how you are doing. We'll be here waiting for you.

Kim

Steve,

You are in my positive thoughts and prayers. You WILL be fine. I look forward to reading about your recovery and I am about one month behind you. We will do good and be better than ever. I look forward to that as well. God bless you.

Better leave the light on for others who will come after you to the Waiting Room that you've graced and made a welcoming place, Steve.

We'll be waiting tomorrow to hear the good news that you've joined us over here on the other side of the mountain. All best to you.

you are ready and have prepared yourself.everything is going to be fine.you will be on the other side of the mountain soon! prayers coming your way now.

Steve, while we all know that you are in the right place mentally and in the physical sense .......your description of the waiting room with its fireplace and hardwood floors makes me wonder about Hanks distribution of budgets as I rake the gold shag carpet and slide the harvest gold appliances over asbestos tiles ..............

I nominate Steve for treasurer on our side starting tomorrow !

Steve,

It's always sad when something so constant changes. You've set a high standard for our Waiting Room in the future. But I'm glad your departure is a planned and orderly exit, and wish you the best in your surgery and recovery. See you soon in Post Surgery!

Debby

Steve. You are awesome!

I made several comments about you to my husband yesterday (wha....who is this guy??) and woke up today thinking of you! I spent 3 years in the Waiting Room and that was almost 5 years ago! I totally appreciate your "sniff" sign-off. It's been a much longer journey for you than for most of us. Now, today, you get to wake up renewed!!! And soon, you too will (I hope) experience that in so many ways, waiting was the hardest part.

Wishing you a completely boring surgery and recovery (translation: successful).

Looking forward to your first post-surgery post.

Marguerite

Continued best wishes to you, for a successful surgery and recovery; take care :)

We'll miss you in the waiting room. hope you have passed your graduation in flying colors by now, we'll wait for a postcard from the other side!

I'm new here, I was diagnosed with bicuspid valve stenosis about a year ago and am having aortic valve & root replacement April 6th at the Cleveland Clinic. I only found this site a couple of weeks ago, however I feel I've gotten to "know" you somehow -all of you-alls. Steve I've really enjoyed your warm welcomes to everybody & I sincerely wish your surgeon golden hands fast fingers and hope he has a good voice in case he decides to sing during surgery.
Best wishes, god bless & hurry up come back from the "dark side" - even though they have cookies and into the light side of the force! so you can blog some more to us!
