What you were saying, Nancy, reminded me of [blank] hospital where my dad spent his last weeks. During one stay, he was in a ward with the bathroom at the end of his bed and I saw the guy who was wiping down the bathrooms each day--sinks and toilets and floors--and I also happened to see how he did it. I warned my dad. It was absolutely disgustingly gross.
Regarding hotel rooms, for awhile I was putting disinfectant wipes in freezer zip bags and taking them with me in my luggage and wiping down things in our hotel rooms like were mentioned here. But I ran out of the wipes and quit doing it. I think I'll start up again!
Also this thread reminded me of a very elderly and poor relative who was having a lot of invasive dental work done recently and the place where she had to get the work done was horrendously unclean. It reminded me that some or most or all of the techs don't use gloves to protect the patient; the gloves are to protect themselves. The relative wouldn't complain though; and she wouldn't let me complain either.
