Carla Emory's cookbook (ours is the 1977 edition) contains the recipe for stuffed camel, along with recipes for stone soup, elephant stew, mouse pie, musgoes (which we have often), and turkey stuffing:

"Combine 3 eggs, 1 teaspoon salt and pepper, 1 green pepper, cut up, 1 cup celery, cut up, 2-1/2 cups popcorn, washed, and 3 cups uncooked rice, washed. Mix well. Stuff turkey, loosely. Put in oven at 350. Bake until popcorn pops and blows the hind end off the turkey."

Sorry about that.

Hey Jim,

One year we were in the middle of moving Thanksgiving week. We were new to North Carolina and had no family here. Our convenience stores sold these red hot dogs for years ...2 for a dollar and you could put on chili, slaw, and all the regular condiments. Well, that year we did just that. My kids still bring that up at fairly regular intervals. A few years ago I substituted a gramhmn cracker crust for the standard pastry crust on the pumpkin pie. My husband acted like I had committed treason or something. I don't dare mess with the traditional dinner for the rest of my lifetime.:D

Love it grilled, love it fried, love it baked. mm mmm

I also married the right man because I'm not so crazy about the dark meat and love the white and he loves the dark and leaves the white behind.

Every person attempting to marry into our family has to pass only one test... He/she better like WHITE meat! Because there's no way the rest of the family will allow any of the dark meat escape their lips! ;) I'm the odd-ball of the family, actually. I prefer the white meat. Or maybe I was just forced to eat it as a child, and therefore THINK I like it best?...

We are with you Kevin and Ben. Michigan has a growing population of wild turkeys and we are so lucky to have a flock on our own property. Last year was our first to sample and we are hooked. Already have one in the freezer which we will share with DD's family in laws who have adopted us into the extended family since DD and DSIL have moved back to their homestead (they live in Grandpa's home). We will also have deer and one last Caribou roast. Many varieties of dressing are available...regular in the bird, oyster and my orange pecan. Homemade breads, regular plain sweet potatoes with real fresh churned butter. Various vegetables, mostly from one garden or the other, and two or three pie choices also...my parts are the breads and dressing. DD's DMIL will cook the meats. Enjoy the meals and the company!

I looked at a Capon Chicken last night, $1.99 a pound! I don't think so. Small Turkey for us, stuffing out of the bird, cranberry sauce, yams, Brussel Sprouts and dinner rolls. I guess that should about do us.

3 for us

3 for us

We will have lots of family over. I will smoke a 20# bird, my wife Susan wil bake a traditional turkey, and I have a brother in law who will fry a turkey cajun style. We will have stuffing in, stuffing out, too many side dishes to count, plus sweet potato pie, apple bread, apple pie, and on and on and on. And GUESS WHAT. You are all invited.
Steve
