Mini-echos?

Mini-echos?

Someone posted an article a while back about a company that went to selected athletic depts in schools and offered a reduced rate mini-echo screening for kids in sports, and they did in fact detect a bicuspid valve in the coaches son. Not sure what thread this was on, but that sure would be a good approach for some of these kids where there is a strong family predisposition to heart related problems.

I have help for those few of us who live in my home-town Perth Australia

just updating on here for future reference
...so far my youngest boy had an echo today,,,he is the 1 I most suspected of this because of the similar characteristics, he has a bicuspid aortic valve clearly seen with slight regurgitation ,,,he is 10 years old...the other 2 (13 & 15) will be tested next week. then we will converge on the cardios doorstep asking for family-rate :D ...
Actually here in Australia the kids are free when they are under 16. so thats also why I did it now. best to know earlier than later I reckon and steve wasnt scared at all, reckoned the cold gel tickled and the probe too on his ribs...He is now the expert! .

I am good at updating arent I :p

OK...Matt and Ben ahd their echos today...
Matt the eldest has BAVD
Ben the middle-son is allclear :D

what a surprise I had expected ot ti be the other way around until I thought carefully about this last-nite, Ben was a different baby to the other two. Matt and Steve were little bubs who grew slowly and had reflux and developmental delays in different areas whilst ben was an advanced child . Matt and Steve also frequently complain of migraines like myself and Ben hardly ever ...
anyway...we are looking forward to the appoinment at the genetics joint as they are...it will be a very interesting thing to do i feel...I shall keep you all updated on our progress.

I answered your post on (children) and i do hope everything goes well for you and your boys. Paula x .You must never sleep, we always seem to be on line the same time and theres a time difference :D

Thanks so much for these updates! They are keenly interesting to all of us in similar situations. I hope the BAV's found in your family stay stable and give no problems in the future (a large percentage are like that). Wish echos for children under 16 were free here, too!! Good luck.
