I was at the pcp last week and got a new script for more test strips, being a type 2 diabetic besides being a heart person. The pharmacy put the order in right, then took it out, then put in wrong, took it out. Called the doctor, without consulting me, said later that the doctor changed it to once a day, out it in for 100 days, test once a day, wrong again. Then I come back to the pharmcy, they tell me about the test strips co-pay is $101.00. Shocked, i told them that was wrong, they asked me several times how make times I test, I said twice a day for a 100 strip, 30 day supply. Then they suggest testing once a day. I just wanted to get out of there. Several days later, since this took place over the Labor day weekend, I could do nothing till. Tuesday. I emailed the insurance company. Nothing came back. Then on Wednesday, I called the insurance company, they told me what happend. Then I went back the the pharnacy to get the rest of the test strips. The person there played dumb. Then I left and came back later to see the orginal script. It said as directed, before all the mistakes were, made. The manager was there then and corrected the mess, made up the difference with calling the insuance company. I stood up to the people who cannot admit they made a mistake. My doctor's nurse said the doctor told them that she would have to go back several years to know how many times i was to test. They shoudl have asked me before all the chaos. I lost one night sleep over this. I understand the problems everyone has had with getting their medications filled correctly. I feel empowered for standing up and getting this corrected. I have tested twice a day since diagnoises, and do not want to endanger my heart or my health in general. I just had to share this to anyone who has problems with their pharmacy, do not be afraid to speak up. I did and I feel great. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this... it's a good reminder to everyone that we all need to be our own advocates. I had a similar situation with my warfarin prescription. Pharmacy misinterpreted the doc's instructions which was then compounded by the insurance co. Gist of was, they were going to deny me my prescription for 3 more weeks. I nicely told them that by then I would probably be in a nursing home recovering from a stroke. I got my prescription and it was straightened out with the insurance company.

Good for you Caroline!

Thanks for another testimonial that it is IMPERITIVE for patients to understand their medical conditions, treatments, and medications, not to mention 'taking the bull by the horns' to correct Mistakes and Misinterpretations.

I agree, good for you, Caroline.

FYI, I was told my a nurse at my doctor's office recently that Medicare was cutting down on the quantity of test strips it will cover. She suggested testing just once a day. I don't know any details about whether she is correct or where this pressure is coming from, if it is, but good for you for raising questions from a patient's rights perspective. My own A1C has been in a good range so I am not worried about testing frequently right now, but there are others who need to.
