I first want to apologize for suddenly quit posting about Teddy?s recovery. All of you have been so supportive and I can?t imagine going through this without you-thanks so much. I think the support one receives from a place like this and from all of you is underestimated. It was what kept me going everyday to know I had a place I could go and received such love and caring from so many.
Well the story is that when Teddy was three weeks post ?op I started with dizziness, imbalance, and other symptoms that everyone was telling me was stress related. Well to make an involved story short, my MRI was highly suspicious of MS (multiple sclerosis). After more extensive testing and putting together my history the diagnosis has been confirmed and a second opinion given by an MS specialist at Univ.of Mich. Teddy is now seven weeks post op so this has been a whirlwind. I am at early stages in this acceptance process but I am very positive and surrounding myself with as much information I can handle and currently just working on getting over this MS crisis I am currently having. I am being treated with IV steroids this week and will start next week on one of the newer Interferon ?Beta meds that are showing miraculous results in controlling this disease. As you might imagine the person in my life who seems to understand how I am feeling better than anyone else and is always saying just the right things is Teddy. I think having had his cardiac problems for so long and his surgeries allows him to truly understand some of the things I am dealing with and it has been therapeutic for him to focus on me and not himself as much. He is a caring guy and we have really bonded through this experience.
Teddy has had a slower recovery than we had anticipated but his surgery was much more involved than was planned. His twin cousins who Teddy is very close to announced last week that as of Friday Teddy was truly Teddy again (laughing, telling jokes and his usual self). He lost over 30# but is now eating more, feeling like himselfand arguing with his brothers. He has never questioned his mechanical valves, seems very grateful that he is okay and is managing his meds and Coumadin levels by himself (somewhat out of necessity). He now wants to get a job for the summer which was unimaginable a few weeks ago. He knows he will have to start slowly.
I know I don?t have a cardiac related problem but I now have such a better understanding of how it feels to have a health problem that isn?t necessarily going away and needs to be managed like all of you do so well. Having such a supportive network like this provides is so crucial. Thanks again to everyone and I look forward very soon to be on the giving end of this site soon and not feeling like I am always taking?..Cindy
