Hi Everyone,

Well I went in on the 15th for a heart cath with the idea of having surgery the next day to repair or replace my mitral valve. I have been waiting a month now for that day to arrive but noooooooooooooo. Heart cath showed 2 blockages so now I'm up for a double bypass AND my tricuspid valve seems to be leaking so they are going to look at that closer to see if that should be replaced or repaired. My surgeon came in to the hosp. room and said that he thought we should step back and look at everything again instead of rushing into it the next day.
ALSO. I have afib and they want to see if they can correct it by doing a Alberation. I thing thats what it is called. Has anyone ever had that done.

Sooooo, When we get done with all this I should have 2 new valves, two new arteries (sort of ) and back into rythym. Can't beat that. LOL All for the price of?????????????????????
Hope they are running a special. Anyway surgery is rescheduled for Dec 1st.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone that has multiple things done at the same time to see if the recovery might be any different. I'm sure the risk factor goes up a bit.

Everyone,
Have a great day!

Kevin

Well, aren't you the lucky boy!

Seriously, that's what the cath's for. Good thing they knew this going in.

Don't know that this ups the risk factor much, except that you'll be on the table longer. I had a mitral valve repaired, which didn't work, then replaced, and the tricuspid repaired, took 8.5 hours. Didn't make any difference to me how long it was - I was resting :D - but it scared my hubby.

It's really a blessing to get everything done all at once - this is something you REALLY don't want to repeat any time soon - or anytime!

At least you'll feel good for Thanksgiving and have a little more time to shop and wrap for Christmas; with the added bonus that you'll be feeling pretty good for Christmas - but not able to do any of the work involved with it :D :D :D - way to Go!

I know the delay is awful; but the surgeon probably wanted to be sure he had plenty of time scheduled for your surgery.

Kevin,

Ross says surgery postponements always happen for a reason, and in your case, it looks like there was a good reason.:)
At least you'll be able to enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner without dealing with after surgery loss of appetite issues.:p :p :p

Sorry that you have to wait longer but its better to wait and get everything done at once. I wish you the very best of luck and hope you have a very speedy recovery, all the best Paula x

Kevin,

I got two (3 by-passes and Mitral valve repair) for the price times 4,000.  :D :D

They said my tricuspid valve had a mild leak too but when they got in there the leak stopped. I had a radiofreqency ablation done several years ago. In layman terms, it is where an "electrician" for the heart goes in, finds where the misfire is, and "cuts" (mine was zapped by RF) the connection. This is very, very simple explaination of an ablation. You can search and find more medical descriptions of what they actually do. I've not experienced that problem since.

By-passes open up (literally) a few new places to heal. My veins were "harvested" (I love that medical term) from my left leg. They originally thought I was going to need four by-passes hence 4 two to two and a half scars on my leg. I understand they can actually take veins from several different places. The cuts on my leg made walking more of a challenge but really not that bad. I'm glad I got everything done at the same time (like I had a choice:D ).

Sorry about the delay but sounds like they are really on top of everything.

Good luck and,

May God Bless,

Danny

So sorry to hear about more WAITING!

ah, well...

ah, well...

sounds like it's a great thing that they postponed it! You wouldn't want to wake up and hear that they were wheeling you right back in to fix something they hadn't investigated! I'm still in the Waiting Room so can't advise much but watched my father (now 9 years later) bounce back quite well from a triple by-pass and he's to be celebrating his 86th in January!

There are many here who've had more expensive surgeries!! I'm sure they'll be along soon to talk to you about recovery time.

Good luck. Hang in there! You'll be good as new in no time!

Kevin,

I'm sure you are very disappointed but basically as everyone else has said everything happens for a reason. The postponement is probably a good thing medically but quite a bummer emotionally. Now you have to get yourself psyched up and ready again. I'm so sorry for you. Take Care! and Keep your chin up!!!

For my last surgery (my 3rd), January 2003, they replaced the old pig's valve with a new pig's valve ... and inplanted a pacemaker. Not quite the extensive surgery it sounds like you will have, but multiple issues nonetheless.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery! Thoughts/prayers coming your way....
