Congratulations BabyDoc! Your postings are a source of encouragment for those of us in the waiting room. But I have a question. What is the deal with "floaters"?

God Bless

"One more thing that I believe I read here before my surgery was something about "no whining." So I focused on not complaining about anything and that gave me a positive thing I could control while I was recovering."

100% correct. I was also going to write that in my post, but held back. So I glad that you did.

Rule # 1 should be; there is no whining during recovery, as well as prior to surgery.

This is a fantastic group!:)
Oh great! Can I start a thread for whiners? ;) Can I be president?? {kidding}Oops, trying not to whine but it is hard.:D

I think I probably whined plenty. Here anyway. Nearly every--rational or irrational--frightened feeling you have had, has been experienced by someone else here who is ready with a kind word to empathize with you.

But, while in the hospital and while recovering at home, I tried to not whine about anything and I tried to be pleasant and to keep a brave face for my family and friends and also for all of the doctors and nurses, etc. It was something positive I could do for myself and everyone around me and it was something I could control, since I was basically pretty helpless for a bit.

I do recall doing some whining--crying actually--when, a few days post-op, I had to go back into the hospital for A-fib/A-flutter and I was on a reduced "one quart of day" fluid intake and they had the most awful trouble with getting IVs in me or blood to draw for tests. I bawled everytime a tech came into my room with a needle because it meant numerous sticks and they ended up having to draw blood out of one wrist and putting an IV into the other one :( .

Did you hear that? I'm still whining  !!! :D

Update; I am now walking for 30 minutes at a stretch. Yes, the pace is slow-normal, but up to 30 minutes. Also back sleeping in my own bed.

Had a follow up with the surgeon yesterday. Doesn't want to see me back for 6 months, for a CT follow-up.

As for the any setbacks; I was doing so well and walking all over the hospital that they were going to release me only 3 days post-op. As soon as I was told that I went into a bout of A-fib. Ended an early release date and I had to stay the full five days until I was back in normal sinus rhythm.

I also went through the IV thing; had to have IV's moved around because veins were saying enough and were closing down.

It wasn't fun getting stuck with needles because of that, and it sure wasn't a walk in the park working with respiratory to do the necessary breathing exercises multiple times a day.

But the choice is yours to make. You can influence your own recovery in a positive way, or you can influence it in a negative way and slow the entire process down to a crawl.

Before Dec 12, I was on the outside looking in. Today I can say I understand what everyone who came here before me went through.

I can say that those who posted with the positive attitudes demonstrated the fastest recoveries, with the least complications.

When handed a lemon we can choose to make lemonaid, or pucker up and just suck on the sour lemon.
