Thanks everyone! I'm not really hung up on which particular valve I'll be getting. I trust this surgeon to the upmost degree that he will do the right thing for me. I am positive that I want to go tissue over mechanial. Too many friends with bad coumadin experiences. I have come to grips with the idea that another surgery is highly llikely. Hopely, by that time it will be a drive through experience. Happy Valentine's day to me! Probably have to wait a little while to eat the chocolate hearts!!

Thanks so much to my new found friends that have wished me good luck! Spent 4 hrs at hospital today doing pre-testing. My wife and I had a nice hour long talk with a nurse about the whole procedure. The nurse seem more concerned about my wife's state mind than mine. Wife is doing lots better after the talk. I will also be having a replacement on the aortic root. The valve will probably be bovine. I will make them give me all of the details when I am able. Being from an engineering background, I have a tendency to ask a lot of questions about how stuff works.

John, I meant to mention earlier, maybe it could help your wife to join here and ask any questions etc. There are a few members (like me) who aren't the patient but the family member. The signifigant other forum (or something like that) is pretty slow but whenever anyone post they get alot of replies or she can post anywhere.
Hopefully you both will have a nice relaxing as possible weekend

Thanks Lyn, We are both doing very well now. We are flying her daughter in from Texas on Sat. She only gets to see her once a year. It will be good to have her here while I'm in the hospital. I am doing very well as of right now. Not to sure about how it will be Sunday before I go in though. She has been very impressed reading all of the posts on the site. I'll try to get her on board.

That seems like a great idea for her daughter to come up and be with her while you're having surgery..I know from expereince it is a very LOOONG day waiting to hear updates etc when someone you love is in surgery. That's good she'll be hear for the weekend before. Many people find they have a sense of calmness the day before, I hope you do too.
I'm glad reading here has made her feel a little better, will she be able to update us Monday? and before you feel like getting online?

hi john... just wanted to say welcome aboard,am sure you will do just fine, the most important thing which nobody has mentioned is if you have a cow one you can chud the grass all day or if the piggy one well you just smell ;-)......once again glad you have found us and i agree with whats been said by everyone else.....

Hey Neil, lighten up -- I just invested a week in Whistler teaching my pig how to ski! ;)

All good wishes for the surgery and a bump-free recovery, John.

Reading the post surgery page has me wondering somewhat how limited my arm movements will be when I get home. We have 2 recliners I can sit and sleep in ,but will I be able to work the foot lever by myself? Lots of stuff to think about now that it's getting closer!!

I am fairly new to the group but have found great comfort in the support here. I am sure we will all think of you on v-day. Hope all goes well!

Steve, I'll just have to tuff it out with manual equipment. I will make it work! By the way, do I have to pay money to have a picture posted with my profile. Can't quite figure that out.

For the recliner, I think it has to do with a few things, both how you are doing and how hard is it to work the lever. We have the push button/not lever and to get up you kind of have to push the foot rest down. Justin "could" do it himself, but if someone else was in the room, it was easier for us to just help.

Yes, I believe Avatars are supposed to only be for paid members.

Thanks Lyn! We have 2 lever recliners and a couch with dual push button things. Surely, I will find some comfort with this technology!!

Hi John, I just wanted to tell you that I have 4 recliners - 2 in the couch & 2 in the love seat and didn't use any of them........it didn't even occur to me to even use them instead of going up the stairs to my own bed.

Good Luck & best wishes.

The ones Justin used were in our sectional..does yours have a flip down table inbetween the recliners? Justin loved that after his surgeries

No table in the middle. I'll just make Gayle(wife) go fetch for me (LOL.. she better not read this)
